I am having one of those experiences that many artists talk about regarding the painting process. I was having a very hard time with my latest Claytor Lake painting and then a somewhat different approach took off! I will never forget what my first teacher told me long ago. When it is difficult, that usually means you are about to learn something and hit a different level.
That is what happened, but it probably won’t be that noticeable to viewers, but you never know. I know I am happy with more complication in the surface due to a different brush stroke approach. I look forward to finishing this one and using this technique on another one!
I really do live to paint but I may have to cut down on some social media. It is so time consuming. I am going to have to go over the demands on my time and reassess how I can get everything done and still have a life.
I’m sure there are many people that have to do that in this computer era!.

Well, we went to vote at the Registrar and the parking lot was completely filled and the surrounding streets were also clogged. We will try again on Monday. We have until October 31st to vote at the Registrar and we want to vote early. Such an important election and we are worried about sending a ballot in by mail.
So pleased to sell another Skyline Beauty painting to a great California patron! I have used many different approaches to this series and some stand out more than others to me but DC Burst stands out a lot! I was very pleased with the electric look my brushwork gives this exciting city!
I will never forget seeing Godspell at Fords theater many years ago.

Well, the painting demo for my latest Youtube that I uploaded today sure took quite a u-turn! I changed it so much that I decided to upload the demo and the final painting in my Stages of my Artwork collection on my website.
The idea I had in my mind when I filmed the demo just didn’t go the way I had planned so I stopped at a point that I thought had a finished look and then went back into the whole painting off camera.
My Skyline Paintings are always highly experimental so I never know where they are going to take me. Be sure to check out the Demo above and click on the first stage and the final paintings below!

I hope this is the last time I say my back is better. Don’t want to jinx it. I thought it was better two other times and that piriformis muscle just laughed at me and started acting up once again. I have slowed down to a crawl but there is so much to do. My studio and house will just have to exist without me for a little longer.

Clyde’s work computer is so much faster than ours that he is known to make a few choice comments about this one. I’ll just print one of his “G” comments.
Yesterday he was trying to print out a four page document and it was going so slow he claimed it was slower than a snail thumbing a ride on a turtle.

Still nursing a sore back and wondering if I should get a straight jacket to keep me from working. I am able to do a little light housework and Clyde says stopping me is like trying to stop a train. Oh well, I hope I can get back to my latest painting soon. The first stage has over 1000 hits already! I just put it up a few days ago. I shouldn’t complain.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
I have another technology rant.
The other day I called a number that I have called a zillion times and was told it was out of order. I looked online and there was the number I always call. I tried again. Not in service. So I called an office connected with this office in downtown Radford.
The clerk tried the number and had no problem so I tried again. Not in service. I called the downtown office again and asked them to a call the number and have them call me.
Finally, contact. I informed the clerk that the number on the site was incorrect because the number that showed up on my phone was different. She said it was correct. They have five different lines. Why wouldn’t it work for me?
As irritating as that was my new mouse I call Zippy the Wonder Mouse, because it works, was acting up and zooming all over the screen without me. I called Clyde and said I was going to slam the phone into the computer and throw them through the window. He said good – then we would only have one bill – the bill to fix the window. We don’t want to be cold.
Well, that was a fun rant. Time to smile and think of the Holidays!
I am so tired but I am making progress. I now have six illustrations for Midnight’s Farm House plus the cover illustration. The publisher said she loves the cover and now she is working with arranging the text on it.
It is my husband’s birthday and we had a great supper out. I used to say dinner but I have lived in the South my adult life so I say supper. Whatever! Cheers!

Clyde is very unhappy about the convenience devices that are being used by businesses. He is concerned that these devices will more and more replace jobs while they save corporations money on wages and retirement plans for people. They can just replace the device with a new one. No medical insurance is necessary.
He says that perhaps in the future the robots will unite with the poor unemployed and lead the attack on the CEOs.
Well, that is much more serious than funny so here is something I saw on Twitter that cracked me up.
A guy wants to write about all the things he ought to do before he dies. It will be called his oughtobiography.

Fiddling at Midnight’s Farm House Original Oil Painting NFS
The other day I meant to present the cover illustration for Fiddling at Midnight’s Farm House which is scheduled to be published January 2017 but forgot and had to change my title for the blog. Here it is today. It is not on my website yet. I am still not completely happy with the file so I will try again.
I woke up so tired that I kept falling asleep while I was doing my stretching exercises that my Dad taught me years ago. You don’t forget to do them when you start the day with them. Anyway, lots to do and I am awake now so I have better get in the studio. Lots of illustrations to do before October 1!

Clyde is becoming more and more exasperated with digital TV. We both long for the days of a few channels that came in and stayed in. We have cable on one TV so we can see some channels and Public TV but that doesn’t help Clyde when he is relaxing in the bed room.
The other day programs were flicking in and out and Clyde was about to quit when I Love Lucy came on and he thought he would give it a try.
I told him it would flick out between the Baba and the Lu. He didn’t even get to the Lucy I’m home line before turning the set off.
Such is life in the digital age. Where is that time machine?
