Line Dancing was Great!

Line Dancing was great as always!  It took my mind off of the huge plumbing bill we had to pay.  Now my car is in the shop but it is just routine stuff, I hope!

Cheers!  The light is coming out so now I can head for the studio.

Here are two more of my paintings that are based on paintings I have seen in my sleep.  I have a lot of nightmares but I also have a lot of great dreams.  I don’t try to figure them out but I am always glad when I dream of someone that has passed on.  This happens a lot and my father and my grandparents live in my dreams.  It is great to see them again and the dreams are almost always happy ones.

Dream River is typical of these paintings.  There is usually a lot of this icy blue color and objects seem to sway around the space. Water is one of my favorite subject matters in my work so I am not surprised that I dream of river paintings.  I often dream I am at the beach in the ocean.

I especially like this one.  There is something about the girl’s eyes that is mystical. I have always leaned towards  scientific explantions of strange events but I like to quote this line from Hamlet.  There are more things in heaven and earth , Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosphy.

Towhee Hill Studio Visits

I wanted to be sure to let readers know that I do schedule studio visits.  I like to show people my work in a home environment.  My work looks best when it is illuminated from outside natural light and in incandescent light.

I do require a phone call so I can make sure the visitor won’t trip in my studio and to make sure I have out any particular works  the visitor is interested in.

Give me a call or leave a comment here and I will get back to you as soon as possible

For a painting that started off great, this one is really grinding me down.  I am not giving up, just arm-wrestling away!  I don’t want to claim victory and retreat but it has been rough.

Like all artists say, they sure were easy when I first started painting.  They get harder and harder as you go but I love to paint so there is no stopping now!  Look out studio.  Here I come!

That is When you Know you are Not Farsighted…

Please click on my Youtube and send it to Stumbleupon!

Last night at my son’s bowling league I was looking at his score from a distance and became very confused.  He was on the 10th frame and it looked like he had a 6 and a 2 and he picked up the ball to bowl again.

I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t done and then the third ball became a spare.   Then I realized that 6 was a strike!

I am definitely not farsighted.  Just need the reading glasses.

Dreamscapes

About a decade ago I began having dreams in my sleep of paintings I had never seen before. They look like mine but are less distinct and seem to wave. They also have less contrast and a lot more blue than my other work. A few years ago I decided to try to put some of these on canvas.

I rarely have those dreams now but when I do the paintings are by someone else in the dream. How strange that I would invent paintings for other people in my sleep!

What a fantastic experience!

I especially like the flowing motion in this painting.  The flowers and leaves move around the space much in the same way that the lines and colors in the cloth do.  It is a feast of color!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

This morning when my husband called me to get me up I was so tired that we had a strange conversation.  We can’t get certain organic items here so once a week he picks up some things at a store where he works.

I know you want tomatoes but what about cabbage?

We still have some from last week.

I didn’t see any.  Where is it?

In the refrigerator.

The refrigerator?  I never thought to look there.

Ha ha!  Wow am I tired.  Maybe I put it in the dryer.

Okay and I’ll check my sock drawer.  It must be around there somewhere.

Do you think he might have been a little sarcastic?

Valle Crucis Ghost Story

Another frightening story from Valle Crucis in The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina!

The name of the town comes from two streams that meet at right angles in the middle of the valley.

Two men were driving by an old stone church on highway 194  when a huge dog with gleaming eyes jumped out in front of them. The dog was a big as a man and had bristling fur and massive yellow teeth. The driver sped away only to see the dog in the rear view mirror following and actually keeping up with the car that was going 80 miles an hour!

The men really believed this dog was from Hell so the driver hit the accelerator one more time and sped over the bridge that goes across the two streams.

The dog stopped following them and the men wondered what it was about the water that stopped this supernatural dog!

The writer of the story claims he knew the driver of the car and considered him to be an honest man.  The writer is very cautious about traveling near the graveyard of the old stone church and counts the seconds before he gets to the bridge!

I found this great ghost story on Stories from the Mountains online publication

Little Boy on The Beach

Yesterday I managed to go to the lake and swim for a while.  While I was resting on the beach

I had a great time watching a toddler with a water pistol almost as big as he was.  He was shooting the water, any vacant float he could find, and the sand!   I love to watch kids!  That one was really taking care of things!

Glad I wasn’t one of the targets!  Good parents!

The Chimney Rock Apparitions

Chimney Rock near Asheville, NC has been the home of some of the strangest apparitions ever recorded in North Carolina.  A little girl saw a man on top of the rocks in 1806. She told her brother who refused to believe her.  He went to the site and saw thousands of apparitions flying in the air!

The children called their mother who also saw the apparitions that seemed to be clothed in white and were all ages.  In all, six people saw the flying beings.  The account of this strange event was printed a few weeks later in the Raleigh Register and Gazette.  In the summer of 1806 people reported seeing  groups of beings that seemed to be in battle with each other that included horses!

Newspapers across the state carried reports of this strange battle and today many people consider the vision to be of the not-so-distant Revolutionary War.

Who knows what really happened.  Today Chimney Rock is a beautiful park with many visitors.

I found this legend on the online publication, Stories from The Mountains.

Life with The Bird and Word Man – Clyde Kessler

The Bird Man is very happy to hear of one definite siting of the Metalmark butterfly in The New River Valley by the Virginia Natural Heritage Program.   This butterfly is having a hard time surviving and Clyde has been working on improving habitat for this beautiful insect.

Conservation is extremely important to our welfare.  As one ecologist put it, you can’t keep taking bolts  out of an airplane and expect it to stay in the air.

Last I heard, China is now spending a fortune on cross pollinating crops by hand since the honey bee has died out there.   Conservation is also about money.
