Still working on a floral that is coming along and bursting with color contrast.  It is soaking wet right now so I will have to wait to get to the final layer.  When I say layer I really mean final stage. All of my paintings have many layers in each session, including the ones I demonstrate on Youtube.

I am very pleased with the comments of appreciation for what I do on my channel!  I try to switch around a lot so viewers can see all my different approaches to my artwork.  I am especially pleased with my latest demo of a Blue Ridge sunset that was started and completed in acrylic paint. 

With the exception of some skyline paintings that include mountains I don’t think I have any blue ridge paintings in acrylic until now. It was a great experience to use a medium that dries quickly so I could get to many stages in one day.  

Sometimes I feel like a magician. I can get so much of a demo painting done in about twenty minutes.  The key to that ability is many decades of practice.  I can’t remember the exact quote but I am pretty sure Houdini once said that anyone could do what he did with forty years of practice.  That applies to art too. 

I know I could not paint the way I do now when I was young.  Lots and lots of practice.  When people buy my artwork they are paying for my costs, my time, and my unique expertise that was developed over decades and is still developing.

I was not happy to hear about how long we need to quarantine ourselves but I know we have to do this.  This virus is horrible.  I have plenty to do but I would like to get out of the house to go to a few stores. 

I really need to get some new shoes and I know I won’t have online luck with that.  Sometimes a 9 fits and sometimes a 9.5 fits.  Shoes are weird.  Also, I would like to go to Walmart just to look around.  I am not much for shopping but right now I could get into it. 

Well, can’t complain that much.  Our favorite Chinese restaurant is open!  We will take the doctor’s advice and re-heat everything.  I was glad to come across this below video on how to handle things we have to buy.  Be sure to check it out! 

We all need to behave like surgeons in an operating room.

Beautiful day.  I am seeing more and more signs of life outside. I am still sanitizing every thing that can be sanitized.  People are being great about keeping their distance. My husband is in the back checking out bird populations which is something he lives for.  I, of course, paint and play my piano. 

I finally understand how to work my new recording gizmo and will soon have a Youtube of my shore work with my own piano music.  I wrote a piece a while back and had it copyrighted.  Youtube has some nice music but I want to add my own like I did when I first started uploading to my channel.  Now, I have better recording equipment so I am looking forward to some great videos!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde and I are both amazed at certain groups of people that refuse to participate in social distancing during this crisis.  When I went to Kroger today a store clerk asked me if I wanted to have my shopping cart sanitized.  I said yes and thank you!  She said she has to ask first because some customers don’t want their cart sanitized. They think the Covad-19 is a hoax. 

Also, there are reports of pastors that are still holding church services.  Why can’t they hold their services over the internet? 

Clyde said if he dies as the result of people that refuse to take precautions he is going to come back as a ghost and haunt them.  Shoelaces are going to be untied and tied over and over again.  Phone chargers will be unplugged.  Plates of food will mysteriously fall to the floor face down.  Look out!  The Word and Bird Man will get you if you don’t do your best to keep from getting this disease and spreading it to others! 

LOL!  Important to laugh at a time like this.  Stay safe everyone!

Well, I made chocolate bread and I don’t like it. Not sweet enough for me. I know there are people at our church that do not have the sweet tooth I have so I will take it there for after church reception. I’ll bet it will go like hot cakes!

I can’ believe I am going to Yoga on a Saturday but my Friday class was cancelled and I really need a class.  I can’t make myself do more than twenty minutes of Yoga at home.  I need that teacher telling me what to do for an hour so I can get a good work out. 

I also need to finished a Youtube painting and work on a new Blue Ridge painting.  We workaholics are hopelessly busy.  I need to take a day off.  Yeah, like that is going to happen.

We had two Trick or Treaters .  Last year no one came by.  I was surprised to have any since it was raining and the wind was howling.  We sure do end up with a lot of candy which is nice. 

I told Clyde we probably  didn’t need to buy candy anymore. 

Yeah, if we didn’t buy candy a bus with fifty kids would drive up to our house and completely egg it. 

Right. That is why I buy a lot of it every year.

Wow, try to do something different in the morning and the whole day gets eaten up!  I can’t believe I had such a hard time making some chocolate bread using a bread machine!  I had such a hard time finding all the ingredients and then I was shocked when I saw that I didn’t have any yeast! I always have yeast because I make my own whole wheat bread. 

Well, this time I dropped the ball and had to go to the store and get some and bring home a pile of mail I had to sort through. Finally got the bread machine going, cleaned up, and am back at my computer post.  I’ll bet is would be easier if I made bread from scratch like I used to. 

Oh well, I am looking forward to trying chocolate bread for the first time!

I am pleased with the first stage of my latest Blue Ridge Parkway painting of the James.  I love to paint water.  I remember years ago reading about the friendship between Eugene Delacroix and Frederic Chopin.  Delacroix was an amateur pianist as well as a great painter so I am sure they had a lot to talk about. 

In one conversation Delacroix was attempting to explain the mysterious quality of a reflection to Chopin.  I don’t think he quite understood but I know exactly what he was talking about.  No matter how clear the reflection is, it is quite different from what it is reflecting.  There is a limpid quality that I love to work with.

Life with The Word and Bird Man Clyde Kessler

Clyde and I are having trouble remembering things we need to get done.  Calendars don’t help.  We forget to look at it so now we hang notes from the kitchen archway and cross them out as we get the chore finished. 

This seems to work for now.  But what happens when we are so used to the note hanging there that we forget to read it?  Not likely but possible. 

Clyde has to have eye medicine that is not optional.  The other day he was worrying about forgetting to get it. 

Maybe if we pin a note to your backside I will be sure to see it and send you for the medicine! 

Well, that takes memory problems to new lows or highs depending on where you pin the note.

  I can’t believe I am finally getting to my blog.  I wanted to write something this morning but two many things got in the way.  Oh well, another Monday shot down the drain.  How does Tuesday get here so quickly?

I have started a new Blue Ridge Parkway painting and am trying to video tape the whole process which will take some time.  Then I am going to look into a time lapse version.  Hope that will not be too difficult.

I am so pleased to sell another Blue Ridge Parkway painting to a great Virginia patron!  This one is of Rock Castle Gorge.  I have a number of paintings of this beautiful section of the Parkway.  It is my favorite section of the Blue Ridge and my most popular mountain painting is A Break in the Clouds which was done from this overlook. 

I use to tease my husband that he should have a mail box there since it is the main place where he researches birds and butterflies and where he has led many Hawk watches over the years.  As always wall art prints and prints on just about anything are available.

I am in a very bad mood today.  Most of the time I am an up person which is contrary to what many people think about artists, but today I am, as Clyde would say, lower than a snake’s belly.  We have to deal with a decades old problem that can be awful at times and today is one of those days.  I am trying to cheer up but it is difficult. 

We have been working for months on a new strategy to see if there is help for this problem but the latest effort did not work out.  Oh well.  We are well.  We have a roof over our heads and do not want for food or material things so I will cheer up.  We all get down at times.  I am glad that I don’t get down that much.
