I am real excited about my next series of paintings!  I am going to do a number of large paintings of Pawleys Island including some sunset over the ocean scenes!  It has been a while since I did a shore scene so I am looking forward to these new works.

I am going to do one more Kendall Expression painting and then get started.  I have had a great time working on my own brand of Expressionism but I am anxious to get back to my own personal Impressionistic style. I really do live to paint and I love to find homes for my creations!  I just mailed Small Flowers to a great Texas patron!

Here are two of my favorite Kendall Expressions paintings and the Youtube video I did on a number of them.  I need to get back to making videos!  I will soon!

Blue Ridge Healing Waters

The Cherokees have a tradition about healing waters in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  According to legend there is a mysterious lake high up in the Smoky Blue Ridge mountains that all animals are aware of and trust to cure their wounds.

It is said that whenever a black bear is wounded by hunters it will go this lake and swim from one shore to the other and then be healed as soon as it reaches the other side.

Healing waters are a part of legends and myths of many cultures.  Perhaps that is where we get the myth for the Fountain of Youth.

I found this story on Cherokee Myths and Legends of The Black Bear online publication.

A Staunton Ghost in the Bed Room

I am still finding Staunton Ghost Stories.  Staunton, VA has so many ghost stories that there is an a tour people can take of the haunted sites!  Many of them are residential.

Here is a scary one!

One man claimed his apartment on Church Street was haunted by an evil presence. He claimed the ghost had shown itself to four different people, including his girlfriend!

The ghost covered her mouth and pinned her down when she was trying to sleep. They consulted a professional medium and were told not to sleep there anymore.  Of course,

he moved as soon as he could.

I found this ghost story on the online publication, Ghosts of America.

Life with The Word and Bird Man-Clyde Kessler

My husband, son, and I just got back from a great vacation at Pawleys Island in South Carolina!  The weather was great, the food was great, and we stayed in a gorgeous, roomy house one minute from the beach!

Clyde saw 93 species of birds just walking a couple of minutes to a dock and my son and I got our ocean fix for the year!

Clyde planned everything.  He found the house, decided which week would be a good week, etc.

It was such a great vacation that I told him he missed his calling!  He should have been a Wedding Planner!

The groan he let out was heard throughout the whole island.  There were rumors that the Real Estate Office had to close down for hours due to the incredible number of phone calls regarding the groan!

No offense to wedding planners!  Just thought this would be a good funny for the blog.

  • Carvins Cove was a prepatory painting for my larger version, “Misty Morning at Carvins Cove.  Carvins Cove is the water source for Roanoke, VA.  I sold this small version and then started on the larger work.  It is the same locale but the paintings are quite different.

Carvins Cove is such a beautiful jewel in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!  I have lived in southwest Virginia my adult life and can’t imagine living anywhere else!  I stare at my beautiful surroundings from my house and car and am always amazed by the magical atmosphere!

Life with the Bird and Word Man – Clyde Kessler

I like to tease my husband about all that he does for the natural world.  I don’t know anybody else that gets up early to check on wildlife populations in their surrounding area.  On week-ends and when he is off from work, that is what he does.

Sometimes I call him Saint Clyde of Radford since much of what he does is what Saint Francis of Assisi did.  He hates it when I do that and gives me a sour look.  He claims that what he does is what people are supposed to do.  But who else is doing what he does without payment?  He is not perfect but it is great to admire your spouse!

Satisfied Patron

Monday I mailed Beach Houses at Pawleys Island to a great patron in Maryland.  As always, it took quite some time to crate up a 30″x40″ oil painting on masonite.  It has to be bubble wrapped and double boxed.  I am always glad to drop it off at UPS.

I am always uptight when I sell anything on the internet due to the different calibrations of monitors.  I am always worried that the painting does not look like what the patron is seeing on their end.

I have never had an unhappy patron, and, as usual I received a glowing report about my work!  The patron could not be happier and now I can relax!

Tuggles Gap

Another beautiful section of The Blue Ridge Parkway is Tuggles Gap.  I especially like excursions there for the gorgeous scenery and for the Tuggles Gap restuarant!

I have done a number of paintings around the Tuggles Gap area and and especially pleased with Blue Ridge Magic.  This painting certainly shows the viewer how the Blue Ridge Mountains got its name!

Tuggles Gap is sparsely populated with only 39 people per square mile.  The nearest town larger than 50,000 inhabitants takes a little over a mile by local transportation.

Yesterday I was so pleased to sell one of my popular beach paintings, “Beach Houses at Pawleys Island, to a great Maryland patron!  This is one of my favorite paintings and one of my favorite places to visit.  We have been going to Isle of Palms the last few years but this year we are going to Pawleys which is the setting for a number of my beach paintings.

Beautiful Arnold Valley on The Blue Ridge Parkway and Connect the Dots…

My Artwork

Another great mountain site on The Blue RIdge Parkway is Arnold Valley.  I am especially pleased with the atmosphere in my painting, “Near Arnold Valley” from one of the overlooks there. The blues were really taking over the range on this day.

arnoldvalleycopyrightNear Arnold Valley 30×40 oil painting     $2425.00

Prints on paper or canvas available at KENDALL KESSLER ART

My painting does not show the valley but rather the ranges near it, hence the title “Near Arnold’s Valley.

The name comes from Steve Arnold who established his homestead there in 1749.

I am always been fascinated with what we artists call the disollution of form due to atmospheric conditions.  That is one of the reasons I love The Blue Ridge Mountains.  The colors change with each new day.

One of my heroes, Claude Monet, was also fascinated with color changes.  He didn’t think it was possible to actually paint a landscape accurately since colors change so quickly due to light and atmosphere.

He would put down each color as he saw it and said the result was a naive impression.

Life with The Bird and Word Man

My husband has commented that I remind him of Spock on Star Trek because he thinks I have a logical mind.  Although I wouldn’t want people to think I am that fictional character I am pleased by the compliment.

My husband said he did not think his mind was logical but I disagree.  I told him his mind is logical and he is much more knowledgeable than the average person.

I did admit that sometimes he has trouble connecting the dots.

His reply was, “What dots?”

Of course he is kidding…I think…maybe.
