Too much to do today so I am going to just say Happy Labor Day while I labor and get on with it.  Be sure to check out this week’s Youtube!  I am very happy with my latest abstract Butterfly painting!  You won’t see one like this but it is possible in art which is one of the many reasons I love art!  Since the butterfly paintings I uploaded in the last post were so popular I am going to post them again!

Blue Ridge Parkway Artist is Pleased with Latest Butterfly Painting and You can stay…

Please Check out My Story on Youtube!

I tried something different this time with my latest Suggestion painting that I filmed and will present on Monday.  I had been covering the surface quickly with a large brush and then spending more time on the second stage after I dried the first stage.  This time I wanted to have more complicate systems of color like my main work so I used a small brush and took more time on the first stage.  A nebulous, and I mean nebulous butterfly seemed to show up so that is what I went with.

The contrast between the butterfly and the background is not strong, so in the third stage I will separate the two and make it even more complicated.  Love to work with color! More than anything else, my work is about color regardless of the level of abstraction.  Looking forward to finishing the painting and I will have a link to the finished work here and in the description on the Youtube!

I am up to 191 followers now and hope to greatly increase that number!  Cheers on a Saturday!

Check out a representational colored pencil butterfly below.  The one I am working on is an imaginary abstract butterfly.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

A long time ago I thought it would be a good idea to buy a small house so we wouldn’t fill it up with stuff that we have to get rid of. Well, that didn’t work. I have spent years moving things out and we really need more room for all of Clyde’s records.

A lot of his research needs to be in paper form rather than on a computer so, instead of scaling down, we will be scaling up.

Last night when I made the very short trip from the kitchen to the other end of the house to find my glasses and other things, I thought about what it would be like in a big house.

I told Clyde I had better sharpen up before we move.

Well, if you get too sharp you might throw me out.

No, you and all your stuff gets to stay.

That’s a relief.

I found another Blue Ridge Parkway Creature Tale!  This one is a giant in Jackson County, North Carolina.

Judaculla

There is a rock near Cullowhee North Carolina that has strange inscriptions on it. According to Cherokee legend these markings were the work of a giant named Judaculla.  Supposedly he lived in the region long ago.

The name literally means, “He has them slanting”, which refers to the giant’s eyes.  He was awful to look at with seven fingers on each hand and seven toes on each foot.  He was seven feet tall and very ugly.

Judaculla had control of the elements and all of the game.

There are many explanations for the markings on the rock.  One involves a fall that left impressions, in particular, a foot impression with seven toes.  Another is that Judaculla left hunting instructions on the rock as he was the master of all game and allowed the Cherokees to hunt.

The rock was an important focal point for the Cherokees and was the site of religious rituals until their forced expulsion in the 19th century.  It is now an historic site that people can visit.

I found this legend on Stories from The Mountains online publication.

A Staunton Ghost in the Bed Room

I am still finding Staunton Ghost Stories.  Staunton, VA has so many ghost stories that there is an a tour people can take of the haunted sites!  Many of them are residential.

Here is a scary one!

One man claimed his apartment on Church Street was haunted by an evil presence. He claimed the ghost had shown itself to four different people, including his girlfriend!

The ghost covered her mouth and pinned her down when she was trying to sleep. They consulted a professional medium and were told not to sleep there anymore.  Of course,

he moved as soon as he could.

I found this ghost story on the online publication, Ghosts of America.

Life with The Word and Bird Man-Clyde Kessler

My husband, son, and I just got back from a great vacation at Pawleys Island in South Carolina!  The weather was great, the food was great, and we stayed in a gorgeous, roomy house one minute from the beach!

Clyde saw 93 species of birds just walking a couple of minutes to a dock and my son and I got our ocean fix for the year!

Clyde planned everything.  He found the house, decided which week would be a good week, etc.

It was such a great vacation that I told him he missed his calling!  He should have been a Wedding Planner!

The groan he let out was heard throughout the whole island.  There were rumors that the Real Estate Office had to close down for hours due to the incredible number of phone calls regarding the groan!

No offense to wedding planners!  Just thought this would be a good funny for the blog.
