Staunton Theater Ghost Story

Yesterday I wrote about the little girl that haunts a Staunton Virginia theater.  There is a little more to the story and another story about a male ghost on the premises!

Sometimes rolls of coins would disappear and then show up in stacks and patterns in the projectionist room. It looked as though the ghost was playing with them. The girl seemed to be most active in the upper story and the projectionist room.

A tall man dressed in a Victorian suit has been seen in what was the orchestra pit.  The suit did not fit.  It was too tight across the shoulders. As I mentioned yesterday, the theater was originally an opera house.

I found this story online at Ghosts of America.

Life with The Bird and Word Man – Clyde Kessler

As always, The 40th Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally was a great success!  Now Blue Ridge Mountain lovers can look forward to next week’s Farm Days!   Clyde spent his early years on a farm and his father still has an extensive garden that we have enjoyed over the years!  No one grows corn like Herman Kessler!

The Blue Ridge Discovery Center is hosting Farm Days at Matthews Living History Farm in Independence VA!  Here is the address and a map can be found on the Blue Ridge Discovery Center website. The tour will include educational demonstrations and programs for kids at the farm museum!  Come on out for a great time!

Staunton Theater Ghost Story

The Gypsy 4 Theater of Staunton was once an Opera House. A fire broke out in the mid 1900’s and significant damage was done to the building.

According to a former projectionist, very strange things have happened there.  Once while threading a movie the person’s eight inch braid was lifted straight up in the air.

A young blond girl, dressed in white and about eight years old was sitting on the pallet playing with the projectionist’s hair!  She silently laughed and vanished.  The projectionist’s mother

claimed to have run ins with the girl also, and she is a skeptic concerning paranormal sitings.

I found this ghost story on Ghosts of America online publication.

Life with The Bird and Word Man – Clyde Kessler

I have mentioned several times that my naturalist husband is uploading bird sightings to Cornell University.  Yesterday he told me he is ranked 10th in the country for this information.  In a number of blogs I wrote he is uploading over 2000 files.

I don’t know how I got that so wrong!  He has already uploaded 15,000 files and says he has over 30,000!  Wow!

Purgatory on The Blue Ridge Parkway and The Blue Ridge Discovery Group

My Artwork

Another gorgeous spot off the Blue Ridge Parkway is Purgatory.   My husband took me there for inspiration and I was fascinated by the view and the name!

Purgatory Mountain rises above the Great Valley. The  road passed through the town of Buchanan, at the base of the mountain.  The strenuous trip down the path and around sharp bends of a creek had stagecoach and wagon drivers referring to the trip as “going through purgatory.” The creek became Purgatory Creek, and later the mountain took the same name.

I got the above information from Blue Ridge Parkway Guide by Virtual Blue Ridge.

Life with the Bird and Word Man

My husband works closely with The Blue Ridge Discovery Group which is a wonderful organization that aims to get children and adults out into this beautiful mountain region.

My husband will be assisting photographer Nancy Kent on April 12th in Wildwood Park in Radford, Virginia with a  program called Shutter Bugs.  They will teach children and adults about the flowers and insects in the park and how to get great pictures of them!

I will add more about their programs in future blogs!

Mission

Blue Ridge Discovery Center inspires creativity, discovery, and critical thinking through interest-driven and hands-on activities focused on the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Our Vision

We believe that there is no better way to ensure the well-being of future generations than to provide creative and fun opportunities for people to engage their surroundings, look closer, question, and share their findings with others.

Yesterday I mentioned two sales of prints and posted one of them which is Color Swirl.  Here is the other one that went to a great patron in  Downington, Pennsylvania.                             .

 coneflowerscopyrightedCone flowers 24″x30″   $1470.00

I have done a number of Cone flower paintings and am pleased with the captivating colors and textures that draw people in.  I don’t have a favorite color since I work with so many of them.

If someone says they like blue I start to think about all the different kinds of blue and all the ranges of tones of blue so it is a complicated choice for me.

I would say I am partial to cool colors but there is nothing in this world like cadmium red light so I just have to say I like them all and I incorporate all of them in my paintings even when one seems to be the main color.  Of course, in this painting, magenta reigns supreme!

This week I have one of my favorite florals, Natural Rhythm, on special at Fine Art America.  In these specials I offer large canvas prints of favorite paintings at 40% off the regular price. The price below the picture is the price of the original painting.

 Fancy Gap

Here is the third painting I did from locales near Fancy Gap on The Blue Ridge Parkway.

sunsetnearfancygcopyrightedSunset Near Fancy Gap 30″x40″ $2425.00

When I took the shot I based Wildflowers Near Fancy Gap I turned to the other side of the road to see a beautiful sunset.  I quickly took the shot before I burned my retina and am very pleased with the painting.  As always I modified it to suit my own style and the colors and textures are vibrant and exciting.

Life with The Bird and Word Man

As always my naturalist/poet husband, Clyde Kessler,  plays with words so he can make me laugh.  Sometimes he comes up with something so hilarious that I practically need oxygen.  We haven’t had to call 911 yet.

If you don’t like word play you may not see the humor in this one but I like it.  What do you call a chicken during the Revolutionary War?
