Basket of Yellow is a striking still life that features a number of different types of flowers but the yellow ones stand out as the focal point of the painting. This is one of my most expressive still lifes with strong cool colors in the shadows and vibrant warm colors in the light. The color contrast creates an inviting mood. I always work hard to put a lot of life in still lifes.

Daisies by a Stream is one of my most expressive flower paintings. The flowers seem to dance and sing with interpretive colors, lines, and textures.

I was trying to remember a famous saying about how to be happy in life.  The saying consists of three requirements for contentment.  I couldn’t remember the third one and it was bugging me so I asked my husband and he didn’t know what I was talking about.

 

In order to be happy one must have someone to love, something to do, and….

Suddenly I remembered.  The third one is spaghetti!  Something to look forward to.  I look forward to spaghetti every Monday night. It is a family tradition!

I almost hit my head on the Car Port Ceiling!

My neighbor used to have a bunch of very yappy miniature Dobermans and then they were gone.  Now they are back and I almost hit the carport ceiling yesterday when I got out of my car and one went Napoleon on me at the fence.

 

They sure like to make up for their size by the loudest bark!  They are cute, though.

I am still struggling with my latest Pawleys Island painting but I can see light at the end of the canvas!  It should be done today and then there will be finesse time another day as I fine tune it.  I will be getting back to my main theme which is The Blue Ridge Parkway.  I am looking forward to getting back to this gorgeous region.

For now I thought I would present more of my floral work.  I have made a number of Youtubes on my florals but still have a lot more to show so here are two favorites

Tulip Burst Original 10″ x 8″ Oil Painting    $168

Tulip Burst is an exceptionally sensuous, sensitive, whimsical floral. This painting was done from my imagination and I am especially pleased with the color patterns, brushwork, and soft, glowing surface. I love to work with complementary colors and the over all orange blue effect in this one is especially appealing.

If viewers look at each tulip they will see a continual change in color and texture. The color nuances in each flower emphasis the blue-orange color scheme in the whole painting. I like to paint flowers but my favorite flower is the tulip.

“Tree Poem” is a painting that reminds me of the famous poem, “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. I consider my work to be visual poetry with complicated systems of color and texture. In this painting I wanted the land, sky, and flowers to visually support the tree.

A few days ago I was having a strange pain behind my right knee.  It would be intense at times and then go completely away.  I kept thinking it was gone and then it would start up again.  I mentioned this to my husband and said that maybe as we get older we get quirky pains.  His response was that if that is true then his whole body is a quirk.  The joys of getting older.  LOL

My husband calls me every once in a while to check on things and stop me from working for a few minutes.  Today I had a fun thing to tell him.  I am especially tired today but still at my work.  I practically fell into my oil painting today which would have been a horrible mess.  I will never forget the time I saw an art student actually sit in her palette.  Glad I always stand up.

 

Anyway, the funny thing that happened today was at lunch.  I always fix a sandwich and take it and a drink to our bedroom so I can watch a video.  Today when I reached for my drink it was a bottle of mustard.  I can’t believe I brought that back instead of my drink.  Tired, tired, tired!

Line Dancing was Great!

Line Dancing was great as always!  It took my mind off of the huge plumbing bill we had to pay.  Now my car is in the shop but it is just routine stuff, I hope!

Last night while my son was doing his laundry we heard very loud gurgling sounds coming from the bathrooms and the laundry room.  The rest of the evening was spent cleaning up the horrible back-up and calling the plumber.

The machine that was used to inspect the line was $200 and the total cost of the repair was $349!  Ouch!  I am still cleaning the floor underneath the washer.

Oh well!  Line Dancing is tonight!  That will put the smile back on my face.  Some more sales of artwork would do as well!  Here is hoping that will happen!

Here are two more of my paintings that are based on paintings I have seen in my sleep.  I have a lot of nightmares but I also have a lot of great dreams.  I don’t try to figure them out but I am always glad when I dream of someone that has passed on.  This happens a lot and my father and my grandparents live in my dreams.  It is great to see them again and the dreams are almost always happy ones.

Dream River is typical of these paintings.  There is usually a lot of this icy blue color and objects seem to sway around the space. Water is one of my favorite subject matters in my work so I am not surprised that I dream of river paintings.  I often dream I am at the beach in the ocean.

I especially like this one.  There is something about the girl’s eyes that is mystical. I have always leaned towards  scientific explantions of strange events but I like to quote this line from Hamlet.  There are more things in heaven and earth , Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosphy.

I wanted to be sure to let readers know that I do schedule studio visits.  I like to show people my work in a home environment.  My work looks best when it is illuminated from outside natural light and in incandescent light.
