Working away at my latest painting and will have it up soon! Just a few more touches.
Looking forward to starting another atmospheric Blue Ridge painting. I like to paint in many different directions but the mountains of Southwest Virginia and the Blue Ridge are my favorite selections for subject matter and the hardest paintings I do.
The interaction of warm and cool colors is so difficult to achieve without them blending to grey but I have learned so much about how to get that effect so it is more and more a pleasing experience.

So glad to be back to work on an oil painting of one of my favorite places in Southwest Virginia, Claytor lake! I am looking forward to the warm weather when I can swim there again. It was hard to stay away this summer but I didn’t want to risk Covid exposure.
I have lots of fond memories of swimming there with family and friends. I also want to go to the Peaks of Otter and Wintergreen on The Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of great mountain resorts that we like to go to. We don’t ski so we like to go to Wintergreen for the hiking and swimming and great food!
After 2020 we need a great break!

I just don’t understand how this happens every year. I think I have plenty of time to mail Christmas cards and packages and then, all of a sudden, Christmas is ten days away. Yikes!
I have had such a busy day that I am just going to leave the same paintings up and add a Life with The Word and Bird Man segment and call it a day.
I didn’t get to paint today but I have had a lot of nice responses to my latest Demo Youtube which is above. Be sure to check it out! I am very pleased with how this one turned out.
Lot of ideas for new oil paintings but not lots of time. Since it looks like we will be snowed in tomorrow I should be able to get one started. I can’t believe how many Downward Facing Dogs we did today in Yoga class. There ought to be a limit in each class. Oh well. I am getting stronger so I will keep at it. Got to keep the old body going.
I hope everyone has a great Holiday season!

I know I have mentioned the cardinal that keeps on clobbering itself on our window right behind the computer. Sometimes I can tune it out but other times it is really hard to take.
We have tried everything to stop it but nothing has worked. It is trying to scare that awful competitor in the window away.
Anyway, Clyde said that bird is like the postman. That’s for sure. No matter what, that bird is pummeling itself.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

Still not back to my oil painting but I am just about finished with the acrylic demo one that I thought was a lost cause. So glad I did not throw it away.
My last oil painting is in that, finished- but -not -quite -what -I wanted, phase. I will get it online soon. There isn’t anything wrong with it. Is is very close to what I want but not exactly. Always the carrot just out of reach. I just need to move on and it will look much better when I am not so caught up in it.
So pleased to sell more wall art prints to patrons in Texas and Virginia! Peaks of Otter in Fall is one of my favorite mountain paintings and Wildflower Magic is a vibrant beauty. The original resides in Richmond, Va. The original Peaks of Otter in Fall oil painting is still available!

So much to do today that I didn’t get to paint but I will tomorrow. I am trying to just cross things off my list without any distracting moves. My yoga teacher just about did me in today.
Enough Downward Dogs to make anyone bark. Lots of arm stretches which are so good for my weak ones. I can do a lot of sit ups but I have never done a pull up. Maybe I will try someday now that I do a lot of yoga.
Anyway, I am so pleased to sell another print of Cloud Swirl over The Peaks of Otter to a great Louisiana patron! I had a great talk with her on Facebook about which type of print to buy and she decided that a large canvas print with black sides would be the best for her bedroom. I am sure she will love it! She has a large print of my most popular floral, Natural Rhythm, in her Dining Room.
Love to hear from previous buyers!

It is a beautiful day but I missed the morning light so I can’t get to the next layer of my current painting. So much to do all the time and I am trying hard to catch up while the computer fights me.
This morning it decided to just spin and spin and spin so I had to turn it off. Can’t click on the restart button if it is spinning. When I turned it back on that little line partly filled up but I didn’t think it would ever completely finish. I wish my computer liked me more.
Maybe computers don’t like artists that work in the old fashioned way of applying paint to a canvas rather than using a computer for paintings on paper. Computer art is just not for me even though I see some great examples every day. I much prefer to apply layers and then get to a final layer that has a unique elevated surface.
Anyway, tomorrow I hope to get to my new lake painting. It will be another sunset and only 8″ x 10″ so I won’t be intimidated by the cost of paint. It is hard to believe there was a time when I painted in such thin layers that the cost of the paint was not an issue at all. Not anymore!
The virus stats in our area are increasing by quite a bit every day and there are more hospital stays and deaths.
Please wear a mask. If you think they are not necessary, just humor the rest of us! It is the nice thing to do. Be nice!!

Such a beautiful day! Lots of people outside having some fun. We took a great walk and plugged carpenter bee holes in our roof. The bees flew around and I don’t think I would like to hear what they had to say if they could talk.
They look just like bumblebees but they don’t sting, just cuss out people that mess up their homes. They prefer to make these hole homes in dead wood, so, of course, they like our roof over the trees. I guess they are just going to have to get used to homes with a little sap here and there.
So much to do on the internet. I had better get busy. Cheers!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
My mother passed away over a year ago and I miss her very much. She and I had a lot in common. There were certain things she did that I didn’t think I would do but I think I am turning into my Mom. I have heard that happens a lot.
She froze everything and I have started doing that. I make desserts that Clyde can’t eat and I don’t want them to spoil before I finish them so I freeze half.
My Dad thought Mom over did the freezer thing. He would often say if he was ever missing, look in the freezer. Ha ha.
I told Clyde I thought I was turning into Mom.
Don’t buy a big freezer.
That’s probably a good idea. LOL!

Wow! I get a lot of bogus friend requests on Facebook and fake messages in the comments section of my artwork but this is the first time the word Spammer in caps was right next to the guy’s name. Not sure how Fine Art American can determine that. I would have known anyway by the message but it is nice that they try to prevent scammers from getting their way. Anyway, his name is Morgan Eric SPAMMER! Love it! I would never contact this guy.

Running around in circles today. Too much to do. I think I will try to get some dishes help today from the guys. Working all morning and the dirty dishes are piling up with reinforcements on the way for lunch soon. I have to get work on my latest wildflower painting that is at the driving- me -crazy stage and prepare a hardboard panel for a commission I need to get to very soon.
I told the patron I would have the first layer file for him in a few days so he can decide if I should make any changes before I go ahead with all the other layers. Anyone out there that thinks artists just play around with paint should know you couldn’t be more wrong, with all due respect.
Back to the computer chores.

I guess it is the abrupt change in weather but I am waking up with a headache. I googled this problem and didn’t see anything to be worried about. I am not a hypochondriac but I do worry about health. hypochondriacs don’t really want to get well from their imaginary illnesses. They just want sympathy. I just worry about serious problems.
Anyway, I mentioned to Clyde my morning headache and he said just look to your left. Ha ha. I told him the headache goes away when I get up and, of course, he said that was because he had left for work.
I think I may have mentioned this before but I am not going to look through all my blogs to find out.
Cheers!

Wow! Life is so different in the car these days. I can remember the days when no one talked on the phone. Now people are either on the phone or talking to their car with blue tooth. This morning while I was driving through a parking lot I had a call I had been waiting for regarding a commission.
Since I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time I pulled over at an awkward angle where there was only one empty car so I could answer it. Of course, while I was in the midst of the conversation the driver came out to pull out and I tried real hard to angle my car better so they would not have a problem. When I hung up and started to back up my car acted like it was in neutral so I thought I had foolishly pulled up on the curb.
Well, it acted like it was in neutral because it was in neutral. Early morning adventures for a sleepy lady. I now have the commission and my car works just fine. Glad to get back to the studio to work on the second stage of Wildflower Swirl!

This time of the year I always hear a lot of people complain about how the season is rushed. Christmas decorations and marketing start earlier and earlier. Clyde said he had just taken off his Halloween mask when he saw Santa Claus hiding in the bushes.
