These days a lot of people are attacking the positions of people that have spent many years studying a subject.

I think people that don’t know Jack are telling people that know Jack, they don’t know Jack.

Actually I came up with this theory using another word but I thought I would clean it up.

Have a great weekend!

I need to put up signs

When we moved into this house we were left with a huge number of large cardboard boxes from the movers.

I flatted them and stacked them in the garage and every time I looked at them I was so pleased that it would be a very long time before I would be scrounging up cardboard for mailing crates for paintings.

The other day I was taking out a small box to add to the collection and they were all gone. Clyde told the people that are working on our grounds they could use them.

They put most of them in the ground and soil over top so we would not have to do so much weeding. That certainly is a good idea but now I am out of cardboard for crates.

I should have put up a sign. DO NOT USE OR THROW AWAY OR RECYCLE.

Oh well. It certainly is a beautiful day. Hope to get outside and take a walk.

We are starting to give them names

Antler Swirl 16″ x 20″ acrylic painting $705

Lots of regular visitors to our home. The deer mostly stay out of sight but the squirrels and chipmunks are running all over the place. We are starting to name some of the regulars.

I am calling the chipmunk I see sitting on our patio”Chippy” and Clyde is calling the squirrel that keeps showing up at out doorstep “Stupy”.

He does not think squirrels are cute and if you read up on how they behave towards other creatures you might think that cutie with the beautiful tail is a good example of how looks do matter.

Anyway, I like to watch them.

Cheers on a Wednesday!

Nailed it!

Deer at Peaks of Otter Original 40″ x 30″ oil painting $2480

I play a lot of rather complicated pieces on the piano but I have very bad stage fright. I have gotten somewhat better but it is still a problem when I perform at church.

I wanted to play a beautiful piece by Claude Debussy for the prelude but was worried about several sections that are difficult.

Nailed it! That is always a great feeling. I know there are so many great piano pieces that are not that well known and I like for people to hear them.

Not a Cow

Deer at Peaks of Otter Original 40″ x 30″ oil painting $2480

We have so many deer here that can be seen all hours of the day. On an early morning errand there was one grazing away in a yard.

The window was open and Clyde yelled out, “Moo!”

Wonder what that doe thought of that. Weird start to a Monday.

The Diner had one left

Deer at Peaks of Otter Original 40″ x 30″ Oil painting $2430

Our Deer Diner is still very popular and we just keep on losing flowers except for the butterfly bushes. So glad the deer don’t like them.

There was one gladiola left that they missed and today that is gone, too. We have written off this year but we will find something to put on the flowers that deer don’t like and is not a destructive poison.

Anyway, I love looking at the butterfly bushes.

Beautiful!

Deer Diner

We are going to look into some sort of deer repellent that is not harmful to the deer or our grounds. Poisons don’t really go away and we don’t use them.

Most of our flowers have been eaten by deer and we would like them to find another diner. Yesterday one was sauntering along our front yard and I went out and clapped my hands to get it to leave. It looked at me like it didn’t think I was serious so I had to run after it.

Oh well. We have beautiful butterfly bushes. I guess deer don’t like them.

Lots do do so I had better get to all of my work.

Please check out my abstract painting demo.

For the last few days I have been blogging about Cherokee Animal Myths and Legends so I thought it would be a good idea to post some of my animal paintings from my folder Kendall Expressions.  In these paintings I have let my expressive side take over!

Yesterday I blogged about some of the Cherokee animal legends and thought it would be a good idea to add some more!    I like to learn!

Cherokee Animal Legends

Yesterday I wrote about the skunk legend.  The Cherokees believe the smell is a deterrent to disease.  There is more to it.  During the small pox epidemic of 1866 the animal was hung up and sometimes it was cooked and eaten.  The oil was rubbed on the sick person’s body because they believed the smell would repel the disease spirit.

The beaver is invoked when children are getting their permanent teeth since it has amazing gnawing ability.  When  children lose a tooth they run with it around the house four times and ask the beaver to put a new tooth in their jaw.

The dog does not appear much in their myths but some say it is responsible for the Milky Way. Another myth says the dog drives the wolf from the home and takes the comfortable place by the fire for himself.

The elephant which some Cherokees saw in shows is called The Great Butterfly because of its large flapping ears and long trunk which resemble the wings and proboscis of the insect.

I got this information from the online publication  First People The Legends
