When the rain started a few days ago I wrote about how I was enjoying the rain after such a long dry spell. Well, today no one in the New River Valley is enjoying the rain! Lots of flooding. So much flooding that Montgomery County schools closed early.
Okay. Enough! We need to dry off now.

I hate to follow up a discouraging post about gun violence with a Monday Blues story but this is one irritating Monday. We all have them. I spent an hour with a computer operator at RU trying to get rid of some wierd announcement I get when I try to go to the site.
After a full hour of back and forth and his manipulation of my computer he said they were having a short and that was the last word I heard from him.
If he doesn’t try to call me back it will be a little hard not to think he was making that up because he just couldn’t solve the problem. I will wait and see. Now I have to log in to all my sites with pass words I have a hard time remembering. This is not fun.
I have to go see about a rather sudden growth on my forehead later today and, to modify an old hit song, all she wants to do is paint!
Cheers, it really is Monday!

Yesterday we were discussing music after church. Our organist is great! She also plays the piano and the guitar and was trained in voice! I always thank her after church because I know how much work goes into music. I play my piano every day. Clyde has studied music more than I have and is familiar with the historical development of the art. He can play the guitar very well but doesn’t read music.
We were talking about singing and how hard it would be to sing really well. A singer can’t drop a note the way pianists can and get away with it. Clyde said that he would be dropping notes right and left and everyone would be headed for the door if he sang solo. I don’t think anyone is considering asking him to sing.

It was cloudy. 20% chance of rain. That didn’t seem like much of a chance. I went down to the park to walk and it was quite cloudy. I had two umbrellas in my car. Did I take one with me? No! I walked a mile without rain and then walked back in a deluge. I was completely soaked. So much water that it made my eyes red.
I repeat. I had two umbrellas in my car. Why didn’t I take one with me? If I had I’ll bet the rain would have held off until my walk was done. Next time I will take an umbrella and walk back in the sunshine.

Look out for Deer Ticks! Yesterday was Day One of the VSO Breeding Bird Survey and I picked off five deer ticks off of Clyde. I have been getting a few ticks here and there off of him all the time but this is the first time I found a lot of deer ticks. Since they are dangerous, watch out! They are so small and dark that they look just like a mole.
Here is Stage Two of Dragon! I am getting into a number of painting decisions at this point. The value and color patterns in broad areas have been pretty much determined. Next, I will make the surface much more complicated.
This image, like the first one, is the result of many layers but I am only going to record the last one in the studio day.

The VSO Foray in Franklin County, Va started yesterday! Come on out and join this great, important birding effort!
The VSO Foray this year is in Franklin County, Virginia June 6 – 14th.
Information on nesting birds in Franklin County is scant. There has been only one previous foray that covered a small portion of Franklin County in 1976. The only other organized breeding bird study in the county was the Atlas Project, 1984 – 1989. This is a great opportunity for participants to contribute to a better understanding of nesting birds in this part of Virginia.
Evening gatherings will be at Ferrum College. For directions to the College click here. Specifically these will start at 5 pm each evening. We’ll meet at the gazebo beside Adam’s Lake on the Ferrum campus. We’ll wrap up around 6 pm, and make plans for the next day as needed. Todd Fredericksen will have a cook out at his home on the evening of June 9th. I’ll post directions soon for how to get to his home.
Some general reminders:
We won’t call in birds for the foray counts.
Don’t enter private property without permission, and be sure to call ahead when we do have permission. Thank the owners for letting us on their property.
Don’t skip “boring” areas (towns, farmer’s fields, etc.).
For more information contact Clyde Kessler, the coordinator of the 2015 Foray, at ckessler@vt.edu or call 540-639-5076 (before 9 PM).

I hope to get to the second stage of this painting today but I might have to wait until tomorrow. I wanted to present the first painting in my new Gallery, Stages of my Artwork one more time! The internet is certainly great in many ways.
I am so pleased to be able to offer prints of my work in different layers. There are so many of them. It would be crazy to try to upload all of them but I am going to upload the last layer of each day I spend in the studio on each painting.
Check it out!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
Once a week we eat fish. Clyde hates fish. Alan and I like fish very much. The other day Alan and I were discussing the fact that I mostly buy salmon. Fresh salmon is great but we also like cat fish. There are others I like but Clyde can’t stand them.
Alan and I were trying to decide which one we liked the best when Clyde said he thinks they should all just keep on swimming.

I am very excited about my new Gallery on my website. It only has one painting right now but I plan to add many more. This gallery is called Stages of my Artwork. I have decided to make prints available of the different stages of my work.
All of my paintings are done in layers. Now patrons can see some of those layers and decide if they like different stages.
Here is the first one. I am painting another Kendall Expressions paintings. This one will be a dynamic, intense dragon head. I have never painted anything mythological before so I am really getting into this one as a new experience! I think the first stage is great! I will be adding color tomorrow.
My first stage usually has color but I decided to try something different this time. This image is the result of many layers but I am only going to record the last one in the studio day.

I put up my Art Blob video. The studio is getting to that point again. I cleaned up a little today so I can walk but it will need major work soon. On a cheerier note, The Country Line Dancers were great Tuesday! I hope the pictures turn out good for the newspaper and online publications.
Love to Line Dance! Join us Tuesday evenings at 6:00 at The Memorial Baptist Church in Pulaski, VA. Beginners welcome!

I am not too happy today. Still trying to get to my next painting but there too many obstacles. I have to take Clyde to the opthalmologist in Salem today.
We had a great doctor here but he was working out of Salem and Radford. Now he is no longer in Radford and Clyde needs drops for glaucoma so we can’t wait until an appointment he has here in August. I don’t want him driving back with dilated eyes on I-81 so I have to take him.
Oh well, health comes first so we will be spending a lot of time in Salem and on the road. Maybe tomorrow I can get started.

I have been working hard at cleaning out various shelves and closets. Inventory is long over do and we hope to be moving in a few years so I want to get rid of things we don’t want anymore.
Yesterday I was cleaning out the cabinet over the stove and found an interesting instruction sheet. It was on what to do if there is a fire. Call 911 was first. Then it said never to put water or flour on the fire. No water? Of course no flour. I don’t want to make pancakes on an out of control fire.
Anyway, I showed the whole instruction pamphlet to Clyde and told him we should probably read it now rather than when we have a fire.
His smart alec remark was why not? We can hold it over the fire and read it and then we will know just what to do!
I can’t believe how fast this day went by! I didn’t get half of what I wanted to get done but I did watch Galaxy Quest with my hubby! A great movie will get this workaholic to slow down every time!
I love all sorts of movies and Galaxy Quest is high on the list of fun comedies! Check it out on Netflix if you want to see a great satire on science fiction productions!
