We are having a very soggy Fourth here in Southwest Virginia so we won’t be going to the activities in Bisset Park this morning.  Usually this is a hot, sunny day but not this year.  Oh well, hopefully the fireworks will still go off this evening.

In our conversations the upcoming presidential election seems to take prominence these days.  There are so many interesting things to say about both candidates.

I mentioned to Clyde that I was amazed at all the support the two candidates are getting.  His reply was people always believe there is a nut in shining armour.

Back to oils and working away on a small one.  I am going to start work on a very important painting next week so I needed to get back to my main medium so I won’t be scraping off expensive paint when I start the large one.  As usual, I had a bad start since it has been a while but things came together today.  Below is the first stage of another Pawleys Island evening scene along the marsh side.  Love that beach resort!

One great thing about being an artist is we don’t really grow up.  Maybe some do but I definitely didn’t.  I have always been a responsible adult but still a child at heart.

I love to swim laps at Claytor Lake and they allow floats in part of the lake so the other day I bought an inner tube to rock around in and tried to blow it up.  It was so hard that I took breaks during the day to work on it and it was still practically flat when it was time to pick up my son.

When I got home, much to my surprise it was completely inflated.  Clyde got it done in a few minutes.  I was amazed and he said now we know for sure which one of us is full of hot air.

And I thought it was me!

We are getting so much rain lately that it is hard to get the grass mowed with a soaked yard.  The other day Clyde said he had intended  to mow the yard but then we had another  deluge and I said you will either have to get a goat or chew on it yourself.

He said he was just the old goat to get it done.

Okay, people have to be really up there in age to consider us young but I don’t think we are old goat status yet or, at least I would like to think we aren’t.

Clyde and I spend a lot of time on the computer but not a lot of time on our phones.  I went from the simplest type of phone without camera, internet, etc., to a smart phone.

I have had so many problems with my phone.  The other day my sister called and it didn’t ring.  She wrote me on Facebook that she left a message.  When I checked, the phone had a message but then when I tried to find it, it disappeared.

I told her on Facebook to try again. When the phone rang, I pressed the button and the end call button lit up so I let out a four letter word.  Then I heard my sister say hello and wondered what the four letter word was about.

My smart phone is way smarter than me. Clyde says for us the phone is a new four letter word – fone.

I have been trying all week to get to the lake but the weather is not cooperating.  I had all my stuff in my bag, ready to go, and it started to sprinkle.  I can still walk in my studio so today would be a good day to get some more work done but I would rather be swimming.

Like most people, we have two cars. They are getting old.

One of them is thirteen years old and the other one is seventeen.

I mentioned to Clyde that our cars are now teenagers.  I hope we brought them up right.

He said they would probably just drive off and leave us for good.

 

Or fall apart.  I am betting on the latter.  They are starting to hobble along.

Life with The Bird and Word Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde starts his day at 4:30 a.m.  I start my day, usually at 7:30 a.m., sometimes earlier.  Clyde calls me at 7:30 to make sure I am up so I can take Alan to work.

Since I know it is he that is calling, I like to say silly things when I answer.  Yesterday I used one of my favorites.  “Who dat?”  He replied “Ain’t Much, over here with Uncle Nothing.”

One of these days someone will call me very early and I will probably be very embarrassed.  My phone tells me the number but I don’t always look.

Oh well.  Like Lucy of The Peanuts comics once said, ” If you watch out for every word that comes out of your mouth, you won’t ever get much said.”
