Blue Ridge Parkway Artist is Learning the new WordPress Format

Not doing very well, but I will figure this out. I want to change the size of the letters. Let’s see if I can do that without pulling my hair out. I did it. Yea! Glad I am starting to figure this out. It certainly is very different from the classic format and I can’t say I like it but maybe I will after a few trys.

I am pleased with my latest painting and am considering a floral next. I think some of my most successful paintings are florals but there is something I am after in them that is just always beyond my reach. As always, there is something to learn and I think I am close. I know I will never get there but that is what keeps me going. Getting closer and closer is great and always yields some fine paintings along the way.

Life of an artist can be crazy but it is the life for me! I am posting twice a week on Youtube and and just a few short of 1k. Such a lot of great comments and I hope people are clicking on links to my work. I have been doing some very unusual paintings there using paper towels and napkins. I think they are great abstracts! On Mondays I am uploading demos and on Thursdays I am uploading one painting and talking about the inspiration for it.Below are the two youtubes and my latest Blue Ridge painting.

Not much to say today.  We had a nice Thanksgiving and I am pleased that I finished my new sailboat painting.  I haven’t added it to my portfolio yet, but I will do that soon.  I liked the way it turned out but there was something I was aiming for that I have never been able to get to look the way I want it to look, so I am going to include that in my next painting and try again. 

Salvador Dali once said you shouldn’t worry about attaining perfection.  You never will.  That is true, but, like I told my students, you will never get exactly what you want, but if you work hard, you can get close.  That is good enough for me.  I learned long ago to not expect perfection but just let them live.

Nothing from Clyde lately.  He usually has a lot of humor to offset sad circumstances but not so much during this difficult time.  Anyway, we both liked a great cartoon on Facebook!  A blind farmer is walking through a field of turkeys holding a hatchet.  Of course, the turkeys were all saying moo!  Love it!

Such a beautiful day!  Great to see so much sunshine!  I like cloudy days, too, but sometimes there are too many of them in a row. 

My latest painting is at that most difficult stage.  Is it done or not? Do I let it live the way it is or is there more to do.  If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is how to let them live.  We artists tend to get so wrapped up in one that we don’t see what is successful about it- only the faults. 

I am going to paint some more small ones.  It is great to be able to move on faster to the next one.  Since my current painting is a sailboat sunset, I decided to post some favorite boat paintings this time. 

Love the water and will be so glad to get back to the shore next year if the pandemic is under control.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

As I have mentioned before, Clyde doesn’t like computers and, in spite of their usefullness, thinks they are trojan horses that have caused a lot of harm. He is especially critical of comments on social media that used to be just idle comments among small groups in bars or parties. 

He thinks broadcasting these opinions are not helpful and contribute to a lot of disinformation that people accept as truth. 

Anyway, I was doing some online yoga when the teacher said, and now place yours arms in this twist position. 

And now pick up some rocks and throw them at the computer. 

Why would I want to damage the computer? 

Why not? Look at all the damage it has done to us. 

Okay.  Get outside to Backyardica and check out the birds. That will help!  I need to stretch.

I really am behind the eight ball today but that is nothing new.  Still not happy about the WordPress changes and will use the classic version until I have time to learn the new format.  I know I don’t have a computer problem every day but sometimes it seems that way.  Another day another computer problem is my motto even though that isn’t completely true.  

I think I am doing better than I used to in regards to getting  things right. That is probably because I have spent so much time on this thing that I am beginning to learn the ropes.  I probably used two sayings that aren’t used any more but I am not sure if that is true. “Behind the Eight Ball” and “learn the ropes”.  If they aren’t used anymore then that just shows how old I am . 

Oh well.  Time doesn’t stand still for any of us.  I have my board prepared for my next painting that I am really excited about.  I am hoping to combine a number of things I have learned from my Demo Youtubes in an oil painting of a Blue Ridge overlook.  I have other obligations today  but Thursday I will begin it for sure!  Please check out this week’s short Youtube on various oil paintings and have a great day!  It is beautiful here in Virginia today.

Love my evening dishwasher.  Now that Clyde has retired he does the supper dishes and I do the morning and lunch dishes. He does a good job and I noticed he is starting to do what my Mom and I do. 

If he sees any dishes he can wash before the meal is served he does them.  Relatives used to make fun of my Mom for that. One relative teased her and said she does the dishes before she eats. 

Well, it does help a lot to clean some pots and dishes that were used to mix things. 

Clyde says he is trying to get them done before more troops arrive.  Isn’t that the truth!

I don’t think I have ever wanted to be at the beach more than I do right now! I’m sure I am not the only one.  We were not planning on going this year due to some obligations we have to attend to but now that this virus is making it impossible for people to be at the beach, I want to be there more than ever!  I want to walk along the shore and stare at the beautiful breakers and wildlife.  I hope the pandemic will be over by July and people

can get back to typical summer activities.  I will certainly be at Claytor Lake when it is safe to swim again.

I told Clyde this pandemic is causing me to retreat to a more primitive state.  I just ate a Russells Stover pecan delight and DID NOT BRUSH MY TEETH!  I am obsessive about cleaning my teeth so this is quite a step backwards!

I used to tease my mother about how careful she was with teeth cleaning.  Our family dentist always told me that her teeth were the cleanest teeth he ever saw.  Well, I think I may be more careful than her now but this pandemic is really disrupting my life. 

Who knows what’s next?  LOL!

I was not happy to hear about how long we need to quarantine ourselves but I know we have to do this.  This virus is horrible.  I have plenty to do but I would like to get out of the house to go to a few stores. 

I really need to get some new shoes and I know I won’t have online luck with that.  Sometimes a 9 fits and sometimes a 9.5 fits.  Shoes are weird.  Also, I would like to go to Walmart just to look around.  I am not much for shopping but right now I could get into it. 

Well, can’t complain that much.  Our favorite Chinese restaurant is open!  We will take the doctor’s advice and re-heat everything.  I was glad to come across this below video on how to handle things we have to buy.  Be sure to check it out!

Beautiful day.  I am seeing more and more signs of life outside. I am still sanitizing every thing that can be sanitized.  People are being great about keeping their distance. My husband is in the back checking out bird populations which is something he lives for.  I, of course, paint and play my piano. 

I finally understand how to work my new recording gizmo and will soon have a Youtube of my shore work with my own piano music.  I wrote a piece a while back and had it copyrighted.  Youtube has some nice music but I want to add my own like I did when I first started uploading to my channel.  Now, I have better recording equipment so I am looking forward to some great videos!

Clyde and I are both amazed at certain groups of people that refuse to participate in social distancing during this crisis.  When I went to Kroger today a store clerk asked me if I wanted to have my shopping cart sanitized.  I said yes and thank you!  She said she has to ask first because some customers don’t want their cart sanitized. They think the Covad-19 is a hoax. 

Also, there are reports of pastors that are still holding church services.  Why can’t they hold their services over the internet? 

Clyde said if he dies as the result of people that refuse to take precautions he is going to come back as a ghost and haunt them.  Shoelaces are going to be untied and tied over and over again.  Phone chargers will be unplugged.  Plates of food will mysteriously fall to the floor face down.  Look out!  The Word and Bird Man will get you if you don’t do your best to keep from getting this disease and spreading it to others! 

LOL!  Important to laugh at a time like this.  Stay safe everyone!

Well, my naturalist husband is still getting out.  He is being careful to steer clear of other people but he is getting out.  I am just going to the grocery store when needed but when it gets a little warmer I will take a walk in beautiful Wildwood Park. 

We are very fortunate in that we have what we need and are just staying inside.  Like my favorite Virus joke says, For the first time in human history we can save the world’s people by lying on the floor and watching T.V.  Let’ not screw this up. 

I am certainly doing my part but I am not on the floor for TV.  I reserve that space for Yoga.  My great teacher is sending us sessions on the computer which works just fine!  I can’t seem to find ones that I like so far on youtube.  I either find ones that aren’t much more than sleeping on the floor or I find ones that have so many Downward Facing Dogs that I almost start barking. My teacher always has great sessions and I am sure she can use the money so most of my yoga stuff is with her.

Clyde and I were trying to order hand sanitizer online.  Actually I was trying to order it and had a hard time deciding what kind to get so I got Clyde online to do it.  There were so many selections and Clyde asked me which ones I want. 

I don’t know.  I am not good at making decisions.  I married you. 

Ha ha. 

Now you know I am just kidding. 

Well, all online hand sanitizers are sold out so it doesn’t matter which one to select.  There aren’t any.  

Well, we may not be able to get any hand sanitizer but I still have you! 

My mind reels with sarcastic replies. 

I think I better get back to the studio before I get into any more trouble.

LOL!

Not getting out much but I did want to buy a new thermometer.  Of course, our digital one decided to retire and I went to two Drug stores and surprise, surprise!  They were all out.  On well,  we seem to be okay and if I have to go to the store I wear gloves that get drowned in boiling water when I get home.   This is awful but we can’t complain that much.  We aren’t hurting for anything except a thermometer that works and I always have more than enough to do all the time. 

I am so pleased that people continue to look at my work and buy originals and prints.  A great Kansas patron bought three prints of one of my most vibrant florals, Sunflower Burst!  This time the prints are on carry-all pouches. It is fun to think of all the items that have been bought with my artwork on them!  Most of my sales are originals and wall art prints but prints on just about anything can be purchased. 

I am very excited about starting a small wildflower painting tomorrow!  I always enjoy painting wildflowers!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde doesn’t have a Facebook personal account and doesn’t visit the site but I do, so I like to tell him about the jokes that I see on it.  There is a lot of great humor there! 

Recently someone posted that since we have learned to wash our hands now we can go on to colors and shapes! 

Clyde said he could hold up a pillow and say one, then hold up an identical pillow and say two, and so on. 

Maybe we do need to get back to that great informative book, “All I really need to know, I learned in Kindergarten”.  I should probably brush up on that book myself. LOL!

Well, I am not going stir crazy yet but I am not getting out much.  I am worried about the virus and have been washing my hands all the time now.  I have to go grocery shopping but I figured out a way to do that with minimal contamination. 

I try to keep my distance from other shoppers as much as possible and I wear gloves.  I sanitize my hands before I put the gloves on.  Then when I get home I take them off and sanitize my hands again so I can pick the gloves up and put them in the wash.  I hope that helps. 

We don’t have a reported case here but I have heard we don’t have the testing kits so there may be cases that are not documented. I never thought I would see the day that the whole world is quarantined. 

Anyway, I have a new video up on my latest Dallas Skyline Painting.  It is very short because the demo tape I made didn’t work out.  I was just about done when the camera messed up so I made a short video of the painting and my latest Blue Ridge painting. 

Looking forward to a new oil painting as I continue to paint acrylic skylines and other abstracts.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde and I love Russel Stover pecan sandies.  We consider them to be a staple and I hate it when we run out. Kroger used to have big bags of them but now they just have small boxes. 

I was so surprised to see them on sale for $1.50 so I bought one hoping they were not stale.  I figured they would be good but Clyde said watch out for dinosaur bones.

Okay, I know exaggeration is one of the key components of humor but dinosaur bones in candy?  I think that is a bit much. LOL!
