My latest painting took a nose dive yesterday and I wasn’t sure how to approach it today. So I just painted and didn’t think about what I was trying to achieve this time and then it took off!
As usual, they only seem to work out when I don’t exactly know how I got to the successful stage.
Looking forward to the next session! Joyful anticipation is always so much better than the frustration that goes along with the job.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Not much to say except we are very excited about the house we may be moving into this summer! Artist and writers need a lot of space that we don’t have right now. The house we are looking at will be perfect for us! Now we need to get busy and fix up the one we have.
Not looking forward to that but it has to be done. I think my painting time is going to shrink even more than now. Ouch! Oh well, I think I can get going with my latest one tomorrow. First stage is done and now to get to the second, hopefully without cussing. I never know.
Anyway, please check out my latest youtube above. This time I was planning on an abstract but when it was done I thought some birds would make for great accents. I like the way it turned out!
As you can see by my selections from my portfolio, I am really missing the shore so much!

Well, today’s painting session was an arm wrestler but it turned out well. I violated one of my own rules that I don’t think will ever change. When I first started painting in oils I didn’t think the cost of paint was that bad. I hardly used any and my paintings were done in very thin layers. That was a long time ago and now I work in my own take on the impasto method with a brush that requires a lot of expensive paint.
When I remember I have to practically put it on with a spoon, all goes well and I doesn’t seem like a huge expense. When I don’t use a lot, I end up having to start over and the sum total is much more expensive than if I just remember that rule. Rules are meant to be broken so that is why I keep trying to go backwards but it looks as if this rule is here to stay – at least for now.
Anyway, I am glad to sell some prints of Bear Beauty, one of my Kendall Expressions series. This time the sale is of greeting cards to a great Minnesota patron. I have included others from that series below. My work is on just about anything and the talented, beautiful actress Morgan Fairchild recently bought one of my favorite florals on a t-shirt and tweeted herself with it on! Love it! She has purchased three original wildflower paintings and a number of prints on various items, including face masks.
I am so tired. I am doing my part for the election which makes it even harder to get all my computer work done. Oh well. I’m sure there are many that have it much harder than me during this awful pandemic which seems to be getting worse.
Stay safe!

Wow! Facebook sure is a hornets nest if people don’t agree with you. During this difficult time I share posts that I think are important. There are famous professionals that I think should be getting respect and support but many people are determined to call them liars and misinformed. Some of the comments are rude. It has been my experience that most people do not really want to debate an issue. They just want to insist they are right and you are wrong.
I refuse to get into a debate on Facebook, especially with people that insult people. So I just ignore the comments but I will keep on sharing important information during this awful pandemic.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
Well, we are back to fighting with mice. We used a Have a Heart trap and caught several but then one of them figured how to get out of the trap so we went back to the old kind.
Either they are not working right or we have one smart mouse right now. Lots of evidence of a mouse, the bait is gone, and no capture. We are going back to a Have a Heart trap but this time we are getting the expensive kind.
I told Clyde if this doesn’t work he will have to stay up all night with a rifle and get that varmint! LOL!
I would greatly appreciate a Google review if you like my work! Here is the link.

Not a lot to say today. Still working away and trying to stay upbeat which is hard considering the spike in the number of viruses and deaths. The numbers in Southwest Virginia have gone up quite a bit since restrictions were eased and I am concerned about kids going back to school.
There are news items that claim they don’t spread it and are completely safe to attend school again. I think that is probably fake news.
Anyway, we are staying in quarantine until there is an effective vaccine.
The actress Morgan Fairchild that bought three of my paintings said she was sure this spike would happen and she was certainly right. Please wear a mask and stay away from people as much as possible.

Now that Clyde does not have to get up for work he is still getting up very early to check on wildlife around the area. He sees a lot of amazing things and has learned not to talk to otters any more since they started to come after him that time he did call out to them.
Since he does get up around 5:00 he usually takes a short nap after lunch. Today he asked me if I needed to get into the bedroom before he closed the door.
I can’t think of anything I need to get in there for.
Thanks a lot.
Ha ha. Of course I always like to be near you, you boob! Have a nice nap.

Not my favorite day. We all have them and this is a very bad one for me for personal reasons. I didn’t have time to paint when the light was good but that is not the reason I am so out of sorts. I have to endure something that I don’t really have to endure but the alternative is not something I want to do, so some days are very difficult. Oh well. We are all having a bad time with this virus so I think I will just get to work and quit griping.
I am pleased to sell another print of Rosy Evening at Isle of Palms, my most popular photograph to a great Oregon patron and the first sale of Black Swallowtail to a great India patron! Time to count my blessings and be happy.
Check out my latest Youtube above. I decided to do some more Kendall Letters paintings. I only have a few of them and the viewers seemed to really like this “A” so I think I will do a few more. Hang in there everyone. I think a vaccine is on the horizon. Hope so!

Still no art wrestling regarding the progress of my latest painting. I meant to say arm wrestling but art wrestling works good, too. I have completed three major layers and will hopefully finish the final one next week. Hope things keep on going smoothly.
I think after I complete this large oil painting I will take care of some problem works that I have been meaning to get to and add them to my portfolio. I am still slowly getting the studio better organized then it has ever been! I have notes all over the place so I won’t have to hunt things down. Maybe I can even figure out how to get Aperture to correctly export the file size of some slides I still have not scanned.
Anyway, I am very discouraged over a lot of people’s response to the Pandemic. It is not over. We can’t just get tired of it and act like there isn’t a problem. I see people without face masks. If they think this is a hoax, why can’t they wear one to put the rest of us that do not think it is a hoax at ease? I think that would be common courtesy.
I don’t get into these arguments on Facebook but when I see a post that I think is important to share, I share it and ignore the negative comments. I shared one with the recommendations of Dr. Fauci and one person said he was the virus. Others said he doesn’t know what he is talking about. We need to respect those that have extensively studied disease.
As a fourth grade teacher told me years ago. Are we going to get any stupider? I am beginning to wonder. Check out my latest Youtube above!
Also be sure to watch the Safe Grocery Shopping video if you haven’t seen it yet. I am going to include it for a long time. We still need to act like surgeons in an operating room.

Well, I am pleased that I am having no problem finding a very important staple in the grocery store – Russell Stover Pecan Delights. LOL! We both really do have a thing about good chocolate.
Clyde likes dark chocolate more than milk chocolate. I can’t stand dark chocolate. I would rather shove a mint in my mouth.
Anyway, I saw something real cute on Facebook about chocolate. If you can’t remember my name, say chocolate and I will turn around. Oh yes!!!
Please check out Clyde’s book!

I was so surprised to see that I hadn’t shown my latest wildflower painting on WordPress. I was very pleased with the resulting work and am incorporating the somewhat different technique in my large Peaks of Otter Lodge painting. It is coming along and I keep waiting for the arm wrestling session but I think that will happen in the next layer.
Hope it just goes along smoothly. I know if we don’t struggle we don’t really progress but sometimes I still learn when there isn’t a big struggle and I hope this painting is one of those.
My Youtube demos are getting stronger but I am doing more of the work off camera than I was on many of the others. I am sure to include a link to the final painting in the description. I hope people read those.
I have been told that I practically include a book about myself with my descriptions but I want people to know that I am in no way a Sunday painter and hold an advanced degree and have many credits to my name.

Clyde and I don’t watch a lot of TV but our gripes are getting louder and louder. We constantly flick the channels to avoid commercials that seem to be getting longer and longer. I never thought I would do that but I just can’t take it anymore. The other day the commercial came on and Clyde didn’t change the channel. It was over so quick we couldn’t believe it.
Did we fall asleep?
I don’t think so.
Did we enter another dimension where TV shows have more time than the commercials?
Don’t think so. Just keep your trigger finger on the channel button. That is probably the last time that will happen.
Please check out Clyde’s book!

I am so pleased that the talented, award-winning beautiful actress Morgan Fairchild purchased three of my wildflower paintings! I am honored to have these paintings in her collection! She also bought face masks, a tote bag, and a t-shirt with two of the paintings on them!
Among her many starring rolls on television are Search for Tomorrow, Dallas, Flamingo Road, Paper Dolls, and Falcon Crest. Morgan also takes a deep interest in foreign policy, politics, science & humor!
She is such a nice lady! I have enjoyed talking to her. The paintings are all below and, as always, wall art prints and prints on just about anything are available. Click on the link under the painting and all the possibilities are to the right!
I have included a link to a face mask for Afternoon Wildflowers above the painting.

I don’t have anything new from The Word Man so I thought I would leave up what I consider to be a very important message for Christians.
I like to have something funny here but I saw something on Facebook that I thought was such a good definition of Christianity that I thought I would put that here. Clyde and I are Christians and we would like to go back to church but not if the congregation will be at risk for this awful virus. This bishop said it all!
From the Bishop-elect of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Missouri, Deon K. Johnson:
“The work of the church is essential.
The work of caring for the lonely, the marginalized, and the oppressed is essential.
The work of speaking truth to power and seeking justice is essential.
The work of being a loving, liberating, and life giving presence in the world is essential.
The work of welcoming the stranger, the refugee and the undocumented is essential.
The work of reconciliation and healing and caring is essential.
The church does not need to “open” because the church never “closed”. We who make up the Body of Christ, the church, love God and our neighbors and ourselves so much that we will stay away from our buildings until it is safe. We are the church.”

I don’t have much to say today. I am glad that Virginia residents are complying with our governor’s guidelines in phase one of the re-opening of our state. Virginia beach people are following the guidelines which I don’t think is the case in some of the other beaches in the US. I have lived in Virginia my whole life and I am proud of people’s response to the restrictions and very glad our governor is a doctor!
I am so pleased with my latest wildflower painting! It came together and it may not be perfect but it is close! I learned something about the medium ,as always, and think I will apply what I learned to a new mountainscape or some other kind of landscape.
