Not much to say except we are very excited about the house we may be moving into this summer! Artist and writers need a lot of space that we don’t have right now. The house we are looking at will be perfect for us! Now we need to get busy and fix up the one we have.
Not looking forward to that but it has to be done. I think my painting time is going to shrink even more than now. Ouch! Oh well, I think I can get going with my latest one tomorrow. First stage is done and now to get to the second, hopefully without cussing. I never know.
Anyway, please check out my latest youtube above. This time I was planning on an abstract but when it was done I thought some birds would make for great accents. I like the way it turned out!
As you can see by my selections from my portfolio, I am really missing the shore so much!

I am very pleased with my latest painting of Claytor Lake and I am considering painting more of this great park. This is only the second painting I have done of one my favorite places in Southwest Virginia. This one is so close to exactly what I was after which is a nice experience, but I do have plans for a slightly different approach to my next one. Always learning, always improving.
As I have said over and over again it would be boring if I had a set way of painting that never changed. My opinion. I do think there are artists that do not change their methods and there is nothing wrong with that.
I have to keep on progressing even though I’ll bet a lot of people don’t see that much difference, but I do, and it is an exciting process!

Where in the world did Friday go? Way too much to do today to get to this blog but I like to put out two a week so here goes.
I am too tired to gab and I still have a lot of work to do so I am going to leave up the artwork from the last blog except for the first one which I am replacing with a print sale of Dominion to a great Pennsylvania patron!
I miss that rink very much. When my son was young I took him and his friends there once or twice a week and I love to skate. One time my son won the limbo contest!
Another rink opened years later in Christiansburg and it closed due to legal problems. I wish another one would open up. Anyway, have a great weekend!

I am at the final stage on my Claytor Lake painting and it is going well. Usually, I am afraid my final changes will hurt what I have but this time I seem to know just what to do to get to that end. That is a nice experience!
I am going to paint more of Claytor Lake which is one of my favorite places in Southwest Virginia. Lots of wonderful memories and I know that positive feeling will be expressed in paint. I can’t explain how that happens, but it does!
I think I am going to have to paint another large one. The small scale is nice sometimes, but when it turns out well I am always sad it is not on a large canvas.
Oh well. Always an adventure! Check out this week’s youtube of another Pittsburgh skyline painting!

I just don’t understand how this happens every year. I think I have plenty of time to mail Christmas cards and packages and then, all of a sudden, Christmas is ten days away. Yikes!
I have had such a busy day that I am just going to leave the same paintings up and add a Life with The Word and Bird Man segment and call it a day.
I didn’t get to paint today but I have had a lot of nice responses to my latest Demo Youtube which is above. Be sure to check it out! I am very pleased with how this one turned out.
Lot of ideas for new oil paintings but not lots of time. Since it looks like we will be snowed in tomorrow I should be able to get one started. I can’t believe how many Downward Facing Dogs we did today in Yoga class. There ought to be a limit in each class. Oh well. I am getting stronger so I will keep at it. Got to keep the old body going.
I hope everyone has a great Holiday season!

I know I have mentioned the cardinal that keeps on clobbering itself on our window right behind the computer. Sometimes I can tune it out but other times it is really hard to take.
We have tried everything to stop it but nothing has worked. It is trying to scare that awful competitor in the window away.
Anyway, Clyde said that bird is like the postman. That’s for sure. No matter what, that bird is pummeling itself.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
Be sure to check out originals on Etsy! This link will take you to a popular misty wildflower painting!
Still trying to get to finish line on my latest painting of a Blue Ridge sunset but I am at the most difficult stage, at least for me. I don’t want to lose what I have achieved but I do want to modify a few areas. It is so hard not to add more paint everywhere which would just create more areas that need tweaking.
Today the light was okay but my glasses were rather dirty so the colors came out stronger than I wanted them to. I think I will work in areas for one more day and then let it live.
It is always important to get away from a painting and then check it out later. Usually, it looks great after it ages so that is what this one is going to do unless someone purchases it. The floral garden I did before this one doesn’t seem to have any problems at all now! Love how that works!
Anyway, I am pleased to sell another print of my best selling shore painting, Marsh View at Pawleys Island to a great New York patron!
Be sure to vote and I read that it is too late to mail ballots in so be sure to drop them off.
Cheers!

Well, today’s painting session was an arm wrestler but it turned out well. I violated one of my own rules that I don’t think will ever change. When I first started painting in oils I didn’t think the cost of paint was that bad. I hardly used any and my paintings were done in very thin layers. That was a long time ago and now I work in my own take on the impasto method with a brush that requires a lot of expensive paint.
When I remember I have to practically put it on with a spoon, all goes well and I doesn’t seem like a huge expense. When I don’t use a lot, I end up having to start over and the sum total is much more expensive than if I just remember that rule. Rules are meant to be broken so that is why I keep trying to go backwards but it looks as if this rule is here to stay – at least for now.
Anyway, I am glad to sell some prints of Bear Beauty, one of my Kendall Expressions series. This time the sale is of greeting cards to a great Minnesota patron. I have included others from that series below. My work is on just about anything and the talented, beautiful actress Morgan Fairchild recently bought one of my favorite florals on a t-shirt and tweeted herself with it on! Love it! She has purchased three original wildflower paintings and a number of prints on various items, including face masks.
I am so tired. I am doing my part for the election which makes it even harder to get all my computer work done. Oh well. I’m sure there are many that have it much harder than me during this awful pandemic which seems to be getting worse.
Stay safe!

Not much to say today. It is a beautiful day outside but I have too much to do inside. Oh well. I did work on my latest Blue Ridge painting and already took quite a detour in my approach. Nothing new about that.
Sometimes I like to sort of revert to older methods for handling the paint and then come right back to where I am right now in my technique. Always worth a try but I should know by now I can’t go backwards, only forwards.
Anyway, I finally finished my latest Garden Floral and am pleased with the vibrant look and intense surface. Check it out below!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
I’m sure I have mentioned that Clyde likes Star Trek. There are a lot of Science Fiction books and movies he likes better but he usually checks out the first and second series that come on every night. If it is one he has seen too many times that remote will click it right off.
Last night the original series started with some kind of cube and anxious officers staring at it.
What is it?
They always have some sort of crazy problem.
Well, what do you expect? It isn’t Trekking Through the Tulips.
What about the one with the spores that even got Spock to smile? Okay, I stand corrected but I’ll bet you can’t come up with another one.
How about the one with all the tribbles.
Okay, I give up. All those episodes were problems for the enterprise but they were sort of like trekking through the space tulips.
I think I will go look for a movie on Hoopla.
Please check out Clyde’s book.
The book can be purchased on Amazon! Here is the link.

Still working on a floral that is coming along and bursting with color contrast. It is soaking wet right now so I will have to wait to get to the final layer. When I say layer I really mean final stage. All of my paintings have many layers in each session, including the ones I demonstrate on Youtube.
I am very pleased with the comments of appreciation for what I do on my channel! I try to switch around a lot so viewers can see all my different approaches to my artwork. I am especially pleased with my latest demo of a Blue Ridge sunset that was started and completed in acrylic paint.
With the exception of some skyline paintings that include mountains I don’t think I have any blue ridge paintings in acrylic until now. It was a great experience to use a medium that dries quickly so I could get to many stages in one day.
Sometimes I feel like a magician. I can get so much of a demo painting done in about twenty minutes. The key to that ability is many decades of practice. I can’t remember the exact quote but I am pretty sure Houdini once said that anyone could do what he did with forty years of practice. That applies to art too.
I know I could not paint the way I do now when I was young. Lots and lots of practice. When people buy my artwork they are paying for my costs, my time, and my unique expertise that was developed over decades and is still developing.

I am so glad I have my painting to work on in this difficult time. Other than quarantining myself and wearing a mask when I have to go out, I can’t do anything about this virus but I worry about it all the time. I will be able to vote but it is just one vote and I constantly worry about the future of our country.
I tell myself all the time I shouldn’t worry about things I can’t do anything about, but it doesn’t work. I will be so glad when there is a vaccine for this horrible virus and my candidate is chosen for president.
My painting is coming along really well which is surprising since I am so distracted. I am pleased that I can intensely concentrate on it in spite of this difficult time period. I really do like working with flowers and this garden is really coming along!

One more political joke and then I will just look forward to voting in a few days. I think everyone should vote early for this election.
Anyway, a lot of people are complaining that Trump is claiming he will fix all the horrible problems that we have under his presidency. Critics are claiming he is running against himself.
Clyde’s response. I bet he can beat himself! LOL!
Again, if you are a Trump supporter take this with a grain of salt and please don’t come after me and call me derogatory names like I have experienced on Facebook.
No one has to read my blog if they are offended by it and I don’t want to get into a political debate with anyone.
I would greatly appreciate a Google review if you like my work! Here is the link.
