I finished my latest Blue Ridge sunset painting and I like how it turned out. It is an impasto painting but the surface is not as complicated as many of my paintings are. I wanted a simpler approach that accented silhouettes of the mountains and not tree details of the range that is up close.
It is a dark scene and the darkest colors are not black which is what I wanted. I wanted them to resonant with strong cool and warm colors.
Check it out below! I am glad to begin 2021 with a Blue Ridge painting! Happy New Year!

Nothing from the Word Man this time but we both got a kick out of another Facebook joke.
Since 2020 was such a difficult year there is a cartoon with people down a hall using a broom to carefully open the 2021 door. They all look nervous. I can understand that but
I am hopeful 2021 will be much better!
The US certainly had a lot of problems and we had some of our own. Onward to 2021!

Such a beautiful day! I hope to get my work done and get outside. I am indoors so much of the time.
I am preparing for another painting and it will be a small one so I won’t be so intimidated by the cost of the paint. Sometimes I practically use a whole tube of $22 white oil paint on one large painting. That is just one of the tubes. I use a lot of cadmium red light, too. It costs $60 a tube.
Of course, all this is taken into account when a price is established. The main cost of one of my paintings is determined by my time and expertise after working and developing my art since I was twelve. Decades of practice and still learning all the time. Any artists that are reading this know exactly what I am talking about.
Anyway, I am pleased to sell another print of my best selling lake painting to a great Maryland patron! Be sure to click on the link under the painting to see all the print possibilities listed on the right. Time to get some sunshine!

Well, I arm wrestled my latest painting down and now I am debating on working in small areas which I hate to do. It is always so hard to decide when a painting is done. I am thinking the value pattern could be better so I think I will go into a few areas one more time. The surface is so thick now. The painting really comes out strongly into the room without any light.
I am never happy until my paintings glow in natural light. They also look good in incandescent light. Natural light and incandescent light is where the majority of them end up, so I paint them to look good in those lights.
Lots of great comments on my latest youtube of my studio! It has been a while since I gave a tour of it and now that it is completely cleaned up so I am glad to show it.
Also, I am again including the humorous one I did years ago for people that haven’t seen it.
Please vote! Such an important election!

Still working on a floral that is coming along and bursting with color contrast. It is soaking wet right now so I will have to wait to get to the final layer. When I say layer I really mean final stage. All of my paintings have many layers in each session, including the ones I demonstrate on Youtube.
I am very pleased with the comments of appreciation for what I do on my channel! I try to switch around a lot so viewers can see all my different approaches to my artwork. I am especially pleased with my latest demo of a Blue Ridge sunset that was started and completed in acrylic paint.
With the exception of some skyline paintings that include mountains I don’t think I have any blue ridge paintings in acrylic until now. It was a great experience to use a medium that dries quickly so I could get to many stages in one day.
Sometimes I feel like a magician. I can get so much of a demo painting done in about twenty minutes. The key to that ability is many decades of practice. I can’t remember the exact quote but I am pretty sure Houdini once said that anyone could do what he did with forty years of practice. That applies to art too.
I know I could not paint the way I do now when I was young. Lots and lots of practice. When people buy my artwork they are paying for my costs, my time, and my unique expertise that was developed over decades and is still developing.

I am so glad I have my painting to work on in this difficult time. Other than quarantining myself and wearing a mask when I have to go out, I can’t do anything about this virus but I worry about it all the time. I will be able to vote but it is just one vote and I constantly worry about the future of our country.
I tell myself all the time I shouldn’t worry about things I can’t do anything about, but it doesn’t work. I will be so glad when there is a vaccine for this horrible virus and my candidate is chosen for president.
My painting is coming along really well which is surprising since I am so distracted. I am pleased that I can intensely concentrate on it in spite of this difficult time period. I really do like working with flowers and this garden is really coming along!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
One more political joke and then I will just look forward to voting in a few days. I think everyone should vote early for this election.
Anyway, a lot of people are complaining that Trump is claiming he will fix all the horrible problems that we have under his presidency. Critics are claiming he is running against himself.
Clyde’s response. I bet he can beat himself! LOL!
Again, if you are a Trump supporter take this with a grain of salt and please don’t come after me and call me derogatory names like I have experienced on Facebook.
No one has to read my blog if they are offended by it and I don’t want to get into a political debate with anyone.
I would greatly appreciate a Google review if you like my work! Here is the link.

I don’t usually write a to do list. I try to keep it all in my head but yesterday I did write one. If I have an appointment I have to hang a note from the entrance to the kitchen so I see if every time I go in there which is quite often. If I don’t do that I will miss appointments.
I sent a file of my latest commission to the patron and he said he loved it! Commissions are tricky but I have had great success with them. I still have to work on the lettering and some fine tuning. Check it out below!
Anyway, I have quite a Monday list so I had better get to everything. Cheers on a grueling Monday!
If the address does not work, put Kendall Kessler in the search!
I stay out of conversations on politics, especially these days. The country is so divided on how well the present administration is handling things that I would rather not get into an argument. I am not giving my opinion on Trump here but I did see a very funny comment on Facebook about the wall. I don’t mean to offend anyone.
The comment was that most immigrants enter the country on airplanes. Don’t tell Trump. He will want to build a roof.
I mentioned that to Clyde and he said he didn’t believe the immigrants were hitching rides on airplanes. They would have to have the money for it. Anyway, I thought it was a fun joke!

I am real pleased to sell a print of one of my favorite family portraits to a great CA patron! This painting is very special to me. My husband would rock our son to sleep lying down and most of the time whenever he picked him up he would fall to sleep in his arts. I guess he associated sleep with Daddy’s arms.
The painting was sold years ago but wall art prints and prints on many other items are available! Link under painting!

As I have mentioned before I love movies! I get a lot of great ones from our library and netflix. I can hardly stand to watch TV with all the commercials. It usually takes me several days to watch one due to the fact that I have so much to do and am a workaholic. Hard for me to sit still for the whole movie.
Anyway, I highly recommend Permanent which is a very funny comedy about a young girl that ends up starting the school year with an awful permanent she can do nothing about.
There is a lot more to the movie and one line will live with me forever! I told it to Clyde and he agreed! A lady in therapy gives her definition of family.
A family is like a plant. You water it and hope you didn’t get a weed. Love it!

I am so pleased to sell another print of Star City to a great Roanoke VA patron! The Rutherford Company sent me the invitation it was used for. They look great! This time the print is on paper and framed for a colleague. So glad to see my Skyline Beauty paintings gaining in popularity! As soon as I finish my latest wildflower oil painting I will return to this series. Here is the link to the gallery that has these paintings!
Recently a store that serves great chicken and other meals re-opened after a break while they renovated the place. We love this store and buy lunches there often so we were so glad when they opened up.
The other day I went in and noticed they had a new floor which looks great ,and the serving area is different. Before, customers could see the workers cooking the chicken, burgers, etc. Now, that part if blocked off.
Clyde said maybe they thought it would be better if we don’t see the times the food lands on the floor and one of them says it will probably taste better that way. Just kidding! Great place! We will be there for chicken soon.
Please click on my favorite Youtube! I will get a new one up soon.
Be sure to check out my Special Promotions at the bottom of the blog that end Today!
Wow! Clyde is hobbling around after knee surgery and I am gaining appreciation for Home Health Care workers. He is great about taking care of himself but there are so many things he can’t do right now so he has to call on the reserves which is, of course, me.
I am having such a hard time getting everything done but that’s life. I am still so happy that he will be well in a few days and not on disability. The doctor repaired the tear and said his knee looks great! He doesn’t have to use a walker. Yes!!!!!
Also, happy to sell another print of Smith Mountain Lake to a great Florida patron! I have this one on special at 40% off for a large canvas print! Check out the special below! It ends today!
Smith Mountain Lake Original 16″ x 20″ Oil Painting $670

Clyde is a great patient but things are not too funny right now. Every once in a while he turns his leg wrong and has quite a bit of pain. He is not taking the pain medication, just a very strong form of aleve. He doesn’t want to deal with the side effects of the strong stuff.
Anyway, I did see another cute funny about nurses. You don’t mess with a nurse. They are paid to stick needles in people. Love it!
