I am looking outside my window to a beautiful warm day! The first one in a long time so I am determined to walk away from this computer and get outside!  I had a difficult painting session this morning but the painting is coming along.  Lots of arm wrestling right now.  This part and the final part is the hardest but it is always worth it. 

I am very pleased with my latest Youtube painting!  These fast spontaneous expressions keep me on my toes and it is a lot of fun to demonstrate them and talk at the same time on my youtubes. Reminds me of when I taught at Radford University. I always talked all the way through demos.

Where in the world did Friday go?  Way too much to do today to get to this blog but I like to put out two a week so here goes. 

I am too tired to gab and I still have a lot of work to do so I am going to leave up the artwork from the last blog except for the first one which I am replacing with a print sale of Dominion to a great Pennsylvania patron!

I miss that rink very much. When my son was young I took him and his friends there once or twice a week and I love to skate.  One time my son won the limbo contest! 

Another rink opened years later in Christiansburg and it closed due to legal problems.   I wish another one would open up.  Anyway, have a great weekend!

Well, we went to vote at the Registrar and the parking lot was completely filled and the surrounding streets were also clogged. We will try again on Monday.  We have until October 31st to vote at the Registrar and we want to vote early. Such an important election and we are worried about sending a ballot in by mail. 

So pleased to sell another Skyline Beauty painting to a great California patron!   I have used many different approaches to this series and some stand out more than others to me but DC Burst stands out a lot!  I was very pleased with the electric look my brushwork gives this exciting city! 

I will never forget seeing Godspell at Fords theater many years ago.

I actually got out of the house today and visited beautiful Claytor Lake with my husband!  That was great.  Too cold to go swimming but we walked around and it was so peaceful. Nice to get away from my work for a while. 

Workaholics have to be practically dragged away but it is possible to get them out once in a while.  Hope we go there again soon before the cold weather.  I didn’t get to swim there once this summer due to the pandemic.  Looking forward to next summer.

As I said Clyde and I got out to Claytor Lake to just look around, and, of course, bird watch.  Swimming is allowed at your own risk after the season closes but no one was there. Too chilly today. 

One time Clyde and his naturalist friends were looking for a park and having a hard time finding it.  They asked some one near the park and got directions.  The guy had a strange smile on his face as he gave them directions.  It turns out it was a Nudist Camp.  Not the park they wanted to go to.

Clyde mentioned that today and asked an interesting question.  Would they all be wearing face masks and nothing else right now?  Wow, that is a picture I wouldn’t want in my living room.  LOL! 

Saw a lot of ducks today.  They were sitting in the lifeguards chair.  I’ll bet they like the vacant beach.

Still no art wrestling regarding the progress of my latest painting. I meant to say arm wrestling but art wrestling works good, too.  I have completed three major layers and will hopefully finish the final one next week.  Hope things keep on going smoothly. 

I think after I complete this large oil painting I will take care of some problem works that I have been meaning to get to and add them to my portfolio.  I am still slowly getting the studio better organized then it has ever been!  I have notes all over the place so I won’t have to hunt things down.  Maybe I can even figure out how to get Aperture to correctly export the file size of some slides I still have not scanned. 

Anyway, I am very discouraged over a lot of people’s response to the Pandemic. It is not over. We can’t just get tired of it and act like there isn’t a problem.  I see people without face masks.  If they think this is a hoax, why can’t they wear one to put the rest of us that do not think it is a hoax at ease?  I think that would be common courtesy. 

I don’t get into these arguments on Facebook but when I see a post that I think is important to share, I share it and ignore the negative comments.  I shared one with the recommendations of Dr. Fauci and one person said he was the virus.  Others said he doesn’t know what he is talking about.  We need to respect those that have extensively studied disease. 

As a fourth grade teacher told me years ago.  Are we going to get any stupider?  I am beginning to wonder.  Check out my latest Youtube above!

Well, I am pleased that I am having no problem finding a very important staple in the grocery store – Russell Stover Pecan Delights.  LOL!  We both really do have a thing about good chocolate. 

Clyde likes dark chocolate more than milk chocolate. I can’t stand dark chocolate.  I would rather shove a mint in my mouth. 

Anyway, I saw something real cute on Facebook about chocolate.  If you can’t remember my name, say chocolate and I will turn around.  Oh yes!!!

I was so surprised to see that I hadn’t shown my latest wildflower painting on WordPress.  I was very pleased with the resulting work and am incorporating the somewhat different technique in my large Peaks of Otter Lodge painting.  It is coming along and I keep waiting for the arm wrestling session but I think that will happen in the next layer.

Hope it just goes along smoothly.  I know if we don’t struggle we don’t really progress but sometimes I still learn when there isn’t a big struggle and I hope this painting is one of those.  

My Youtube demos are getting stronger but I am doing more of the work off camera than I was on many of the others.  I am sure to include a link to the final painting in the description. I hope people read those. 

I have been told that I practically include a book about myself with my descriptions but I want people to know that I am in no way a Sunday painter and hold an advanced  degree and have many credits to my name.

Clyde and I don’t watch a lot of TV but our gripes are getting louder and louder.  We constantly flick the channels to avoid commercials that seem to be getting longer and longer. I never thought I would do that but I just can’t take it anymore. The other day the commercial came on and Clyde didn’t change the channel.  It was over so quick we couldn’t believe it.

Did we fall asleep? 

I don’t think so.

Did we enter another dimension where TV shows have more time than the commercials?

Don’t think so. Just keep your trigger finger on the channel button.  That is probably the last time that will happen.

Not my favorite day but they are all good in some ways.  Didn’t get to paint this morning and now the light is not right and I have been having a very hard time with a huge blood blister on the under side of my tongue that started on  Saturday. It popped the next day but has been so sore I have had a hard time talking and eating.  I finally gave in today and took some advil.

I don’t like to take medication of any kind but if I have a hard time eating, then I am very unhappy.  I eat something every few hours.  I have first and second breakfast just like a hobbit so strong pain when eating had to go!

Anyway I am having a great time with another wildflower painting and looking forward to working on it tomorrow.  It took a bad turn yesterday but now it is back on track. I’ll bet that makes a lot of sense.  To think there are some people that don’t think artists are crazy.  LOL!

Well, I couldn’t miss Line Dance Class today so when I arrived I put sanitizer on my hands.  Then I put gloves on and kept them on during the whole class.  I stood six feet away from each dancer. 

When I got in my car to leave I took the sanitizer out again, took off my gloves and put that stuff on again. 

When I got home I put the gloves in the wash.  I hope that did it.  I don’t want to stop living to keep from dying but the Rec Center where the classes are held may shut down.  I think most everyone else is smarter than me regarding this pandemic. 

On well.  I have the CDS from out performances and it doesn’t take much room to dance away.  Now the question is whether or not I go to Yoga class tomorrow.  Anyway, I finished my latest Blue Ridge painting of a Wintergreen Sunset. Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde told me a long time ago that when retired he would get some sophisticated equipment to record bird songs.  Now he says he probably won’t do that. 

Why? 

My hearing is not what it used to be.  A lot of Bird Watchers our age can’t hear certain bird songs. I can’t even hear a Golden Crowned Kinglet. 

Or me asking you to do the dishes.  Just joking. Clyde is great about taking turns washing the dishes and I hope he does get that equipment. 

To quote the very fun movie Galaxy Quest.  Never give up! Never surrender!

I have been having hard time sleeping lately for many reasons so last night was great! I went to bed at 10:30 and didn’t get up until 8:00!  Always good to get some much needed sleep. 

I have never been one of those people that drop right off like my husband does.  Some of us have a very hard time turning off our minds.  I am not surprised that I remember a lot of whacky dreams since I don’t sleep that well. 

Anyway, I am looking into my next painting idea and I  put up my Monday video on Youtube! Be sure to check it out.  I decided to go back to some Skyline Beauty paintings and the first one is of Dallas Texas.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

I was feeling a little down the other day so naturally I wanted to get some cheering up from Clyde so I lied down next to him in the bedroom where he was watching T.V.

I want you to do something to cheer me up.

Leave?

No. 

Well, at least I didn’t look in the mirror and complain about how old I look and then asked him to say something nice and his response was, “Well, your eyesight is perfect.”

Well, I managed to upload another Youtube!  I am pleased that I have managed one a week for a long time!  I didn’t get a chance to make a Demo Youtube last week but I wanted to be sure to film one of my latest Blue Ridge Parkway painting. Be sure to click on it!  I have a number of other favorites to show! 

I hate to say is sure is a Monday again but when your favorite hand made ceramic cup decides to break and a piece gashes your thumb, you do have the tendency to agree with Garfield!  It took a very long time to stop bleeding but I don’t think I need stitches.  Well, I have managed to get a lot of things done in spite of the wound so can’t complain too much. 

Time to get to the next chore and I am looking forward to spaghetti tonight!

As usual, Clyde and I are complaining about TV commercials.  I am just waiting for the networks to give more air time to the commercials than the programs.  Anyway, we were talking about how great they are for the actors. 

I have heard they get paid a lot. 

Just think of how much money that actress that plays Flo makes! 

That’s nothing.  What about that lizard on Geico.  Think of the island that thing probably bought and all the lizards diving off the board of his mansion pool!

I don’t really want to picture that.  Not real fond of lizards.
