It certainly has been cloudy lately.  I don’t mind overcast weather but I would like to see the sun soon.  It always amazes me that when I have a patron coming over for a studio visit it is almost always cloudy.  We have an active solar house and it is a dark house on one side and bright on the other. 

A lot of my artwork is on display in the dark side of the house, not just the studio.   I turn on a lot of lights but the natural light coming in through the windows looks the best.

Anyway, I have finally started my Wintergreen sunset painting!  It is great to back to oil paint but I think I will be ordering some very expensive colors soon.  It would be great if professional oil paint was the same price as house paint.  I knew an artist that painted very large works and he would use house paint.  I can understand that!  The colors are way too flat for me and I want my work to last forever so I use Gamblin and Utrect. 

I mostly use the more expensive brand which is Gamblin but I don’t like Gamblin Cerulean Blue so I order that color from Utrecht.  I also don’t use earth colors which are less expensive.  I have a colorist palette so I order expensive blues, greens, yellows, reds, and purples.  I can get any kind of earth color from those colors and I think the effect is more vibrant.  Right now, Cadmium Red is $66 for a large tube.  I always buy large tubes. The small ones don’t last long at all.

Clyde and I are having more trouble finding things than usual.  I usually get very aggravated and start cussing like a sailor.  Clyde just keeps trying to find whatever it is we can’t locate. 

Anyway I told Clyde the first nine chapters of The Marriage book are “Where is it?” 

Chapter 10 is “I don’t know”.

I am pleased that I managed another Skyline Beauty painting of Austin Texas!  Now I will have five for an Etsy listing.  This time I decided to use soft pastel colors.  I am getting a lot of compliments on my expressive skylines so I thought it would be a nice change of pace to use a different palette.  I am very pleased with the results. 

My first medium was soft pastels and I know how to mimic that look with paint. Be sure to check it out! 

I am looking forward to the patron that commissioned me to restore some glass paintings.  He is also considering a lake commission and will be purchasing The Lodge at The Peaks of Otter.  He has a print but he wants to get the original and give the print to a friend.

Well, I got my new phone.  I stared at that box for a few days and then was notified I should set it up.  I can’t believe how much trouble I have with this sort of thing.  The last time the operator had to admit something was actually wrong with the phone and we had to send it back and get another one. 

I told Clyde if you hear me crying it is because I finally opened the box.  He said if I hear you laughing I will know you chucked it out the window.  As it turned out we spent an hour and a half trying to get it set up with an operator. 

After forty five minutes he assured me the minutes had been transferred to my new phone.  I tried to make a call and was informed by the phone there would be charges.  So we started over with another operator, this time on a chat.  Finally I can use the phone. 

Now I just need help getting all the stuff from my old phone transferred to the new one.  We will call a friend that is much younger than us to help.  He is not from India.  We can easily understand him.  Yikes!

I am so pleased to be finished with the second glass painting restoration!  Had some trouble with certain colors resisting but after many layers it is completely covered and I will send a file to the patron. 

He has one more so I am looking forward to seeing him and giving him the first two.  He said the first one looked wonderful! 

They certainly are interesting paintings.  My husband said they looked like illustrations for books.  Below is the second one.

Clyde is always complaining about traffic.  For some reason a lot of dangerous drivers seem to find him a lot more than they find me. 

Well, yesterday I had an interesting experience I had to tell him about.  I was driving along when I noticed in the mirror a driver weaving back and forth which made me nervous.  When the driver was practically touching my bumper I could see it was a girl that kept looking at herself in the mirror and then looking down to the seat. 

I am pretty sure I have mentioned before that my brother-in-law always gets off the road if someone is barreling down on him.  He says he had better get out of the way. That guy must be on a mission for God. 

Well, I don’t usually get out of the way but I did turn off and let that girl pass because I think she must have been on a mission for Revlon.  Clyde agreed.

I am very excited about my new wildflower painting!  I love to work with all the textures and colors in field of beautiful flowers!  This one has white and magenta flowers and I am looking forward to the next stage.  I am pleased with the last one and will do a few more before I move on to something else.  I may do some expressive still lifes.  I do not know the meaning of the phrase artist’s block.  I just know there are never enough hours in the day for all that I want to do and I had better get some housework done before I start choking on the dust.

Well, I am back to my Skyline Beauty series!  I really enjoy this series in acrylics.  I love the way I can achieve a bunch of layers in one session due to the drying time of the paint.  I used to think that was a major disadvantage of acrylics but now I think it is an advantage – at least an advantage for how I paint.  I decided on another view of the Memphis TN skyline and am very pleased with the first stage. 

I may just tweak it and have one listing but I will see what happens when I get back to it.  I was starting with just the center area of the canvas for my Skyline Paintings and then filling it up in the second layer but this time I wanted to cover the whole canvas for the first stage.  I will be painting one more Memphis painting and will probably have two layers that are quite different.

Wow! There certainly is a massive effort to convince everyone their teeth should be as white as a piece of tissue paper.  Of course, there are lots of products to buy to achieve super white teeth.  I don’t think teeth are meant to be white as snow.  I knew a girl that had teeth so white each one of them looked like a little flashlight.  Clyde said maybe people should just put a flashlight in their mouth. Then they wouldn’t have to work so hard to get them white. 

I think I will just brush and floss.  They look okay to me.

We are all glad to see the water go back to the New River!  We certainly got by with minimal flooding.  I am glad that I am all paid up on my Home Owners Insurance.  Funny thing.  Well, not that funny but definitely an age thing.  I accidentally paid it twice and when I was going over my statement I discovered the error. I realize that last statement is strange to a lot of people, if not most people. 

I know I can bank online but all this online stuff makes me nervous.  I just don’t think it is safe. I was rather surprised that the company cashed both checks.  I called about it and the local representative said my computer listing has a refund.  Why couldn’t they just send back one of the checks?  Anyway, I need to be more careful but I am glad it has been a very long time since I made that sort of error.  One time I put the amount for my credit card bill on the check for my phone bill.  Of course, they issued me a refund. 

I know I am not alone in saying this age thing is not fun.  I just keep on thinking of the lady in her nineties that performs on a balance beam!  Yes, we can keep going for a long time!

I look forward to watching Star Trek reruns with Clyde.  They are on the hour before he goes to bed and I can usually goad him into saying something I can use here.

If Star Trek has 400 crew members, how come we only see a few in the bridge and the captain and senior officers only take a few crewmen with red shirts that usually get killed.  Where are the others? 

They are below playing badminton. Most of them are complaining that this so-called five year mission isn’t getting them any lines for them to say on the show.

Wow!  I think the objects in our lives are becoming way too automated. What was the problem with rolling down a car window?

Why do people have riding lawn mowers when they could get some exercise pushing a mower?

Now there is a cup that stirs the drink for you.  When I mentioned that to Clyde he asked if the cup takes the temperature of the liquid, too?  Actually, there are cups that do that.

Well, I have said it before and I will say it again.  If they computerize bathrooms we are going to need an out house.

Nothing today.  Clyde and I both have a very long To Do List and that is not funny at all. If Clyde were here he would probably say change the words to do to don’t do it and have a great day!

Feel like I am trying to get somewhere on one of those stationary exercise machines that we would never buy.  No room and no desire to run in place. Our exercise must cover some territory, even if it is Line Dancing in the Living Room which I did do last night for the first time in three weeks!  

Maybe we can get to the Lake today!  Dream on!

Back to Yoga but still taking it easy.  Twice I thought my back was completely better and twice the piriformis muscle acted up again.  Still not painting.  One thing I have noticed over the years is that when I paint if I am in pain I can hardly feel it.  All my attention is on the painting.  Oh well, I can still play the piano.  We creative types have a hard time slowing down but sometimes the body insists we stop working so hard.

I didn’t have a funnie from Clyde but I did see a great artist joke on the internet.  Well, great to me.  I love puns.

A cowboy rides into town in the Wild West and shoots an artist.

The sheriff asks him, “Why did you do that?”

The cowboy says, “I thought he was going to draw.”

Clyde liked the joke and added another one. 

Just be sure you don’t paint a pony. 

Why? 

It might ride off into the sunset. 

Ha ha.  Yes, Sheldon.  That was a sarcastic ha ha.
