I finished my latest Blue Ridge sunset painting and I like how it turned out. It is an impasto painting but the surface is not as complicated as many of my paintings are. I wanted a simpler approach that accented silhouettes of the mountains and not tree details of the range that is up close.
It is a dark scene and the darkest colors are not black which is what I wanted. I wanted them to resonant with strong cool and warm colors.
Check it out below! I am glad to begin 2021 with a Blue Ridge painting! Happy New Year!

Nothing from the Word Man this time but we both got a kick out of another Facebook joke.
Since 2020 was such a difficult year there is a cartoon with people down a hall using a broom to carefully open the 2021 door. They all look nervous. I can understand that but
I am hopeful 2021 will be much better!
The US certainly had a lot of problems and we had some of our own. Onward to 2021!

I am so pleased with my latest painting of a Blue Ridge sunset! The effect I am trying to get is coming along and it may not be exactly what I want but it is so close. I hope to finish it in one more session and then I will add it to my portfolio. Love to paint! Live to paint!
I am so pleased that another original Blue Ridge painting has a home in Texas! James River Beauty is from a photograph I took from the bridge over the James River right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is always great to get my paintings out to as many places as possible. I hope they will still be around after I am gone. I work very hard at my artwork and I want others to see it.
As always, wall art prints, and prints on just about anything of James River Beauty are available. Click on the link below to see all the possibilities to the right!

Nothing from the Word Man this time but we both got a kick out of another Santa cartoon on Facebook.
We wear our masks and shield everywhere we go. We would only wear masks if everyone else would but everywhere we go there are always people without them, so we feel more protected with the shields.
I’m sure there are people that think we are over doing it but that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Anyway, Santa was complaining about how long it was taking him to deliver presents. He had to keep going back to his sled to get his mask. LOL!

Such a beautiful day! Great to see so much sunshine! I like cloudy days, too, but sometimes there are too many of them in a row.
My latest painting is at that most difficult stage. Is it done or not? Do I let it live the way it is or is there more to do. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is how to let them live. We artists tend to get so wrapped up in one that we don’t see what is successful about it- only the faults.
I am going to paint some more small ones. It is great to be able to move on faster to the next one. Since my current painting is a sailboat sunset, I decided to post some favorite boat paintings this time.
Love the water and will be so glad to get back to the shore next year if the pandemic is under control.
Be sure to check out my latest St. Louis demo painting youtube above! This is the first one that I put expressive clouds in. Always trying to do something different in these youtube demos.

As I have mentioned before, Clyde doesn’t like computers and, in spite of their usefullness, thinks they are trojan horses that have caused a lot of harm. He is especially critical of comments on social media that used to be just idle comments among small groups in bars or parties.
He thinks broadcasting these opinions are not helpful and contribute to a lot of disinformation that people accept as truth.
Anyway, I was doing some online yoga when the teacher said, and now place yours arms in this twist position.
And now pick up some rocks and throw them at the computer.
Why would I want to damage the computer?
Why not? Look at all the damage it has done to us.
Okay. Get outside to Backyardica and check out the birds. That will help! I need to stretch.

It is a beautiful day but I missed the morning light so I can’t get to the next layer of my current painting. So much to do all the time and I am trying hard to catch up while the computer fights me.
This morning it decided to just spin and spin and spin so I had to turn it off. Can’t click on the restart button if it is spinning. When I turned it back on that little line partly filled up but I didn’t think it would ever completely finish. I wish my computer liked me more.
Maybe computers don’t like artists that work in the old fashioned way of applying paint to a canvas rather than using a computer for paintings on paper. Computer art is just not for me even though I see some great examples every day. I much prefer to apply layers and then get to a final layer that has a unique elevated surface.
Anyway, tomorrow I hope to get to my new lake painting. It will be another sunset and only 8″ x 10″ so I won’t be intimidated by the cost of paint. It is hard to believe there was a time when I painted in such thin layers that the cost of the paint was not an issue at all. Not anymore!
The virus stats in our area are increasing by quite a bit every day and there are more hospital stays and deaths.
Please wear a mask. If you think they are not necessary, just humor the rest of us! It is the nice thing to do. Be nice!!

Such a beautiful day! I hope to get my work done and get outside. I am indoors so much of the time.
I am preparing for another painting and it will be a small one so I won’t be so intimidated by the cost of the paint. Sometimes I practically use a whole tube of $22 white oil paint on one large painting. That is just one of the tubes. I use a lot of cadmium red light, too. It costs $60 a tube.
Of course, all this is taken into account when a price is established. The main cost of one of my paintings is determined by my time and expertise after working and developing my art since I was twelve. Decades of practice and still learning all the time. Any artists that are reading this know exactly what I am talking about.
Anyway, I am pleased to sell another print of my best selling lake painting to a great Maryland patron! Be sure to click on the link under the painting to see all the print possibilities listed on the right. Time to get some sunshine!

I guess WordPress has changed their format which is probably helpful to many but it is always a problem for me. I get used to one way of doing things and then it is different. I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I wish they would not change site formats.
I am looking forward to my next painting which will be a Blue Ridge landscape which is my main work. This time it will be based on a location with some improvisations in the look of the overlook and the sky.
Hope everyone is well and staying as safe as possible.
Well I can’t figure out a thing in this new format. I thought I had pressed classic editor but I guess I didn’t. The new one kept asking me if I wanted to stay on the page when I was typing something. Arggh! Now I am back to classic so I can get things done. I thought I would never get used to the Wix format but I am getting better at it so I am sure I will get used to this.
I am using the classic editor but weird things keep happening so I may have to claim victory and retreat before I pull my hair out.
I HAVE HAD ENOUGH COMPUTER AGGRAVATION FOR ONE DAY.
Anyway, I am glad to sell a print of Wildflower Mist to a great Georgia patron! This one will be in a nursery. How great to think of a baby waking up to one of my paintings!

I don’t have a lot to say today. I couldn’t paint because it is just too dark. My Daylight Fluorescent lights aren’t good enough when it is very dark. I can’t see the warm colors well enough so they would be too strong if I worked this morning. It is still very dark. I hope I get some light tomorrow.
I want to add my latest floral to my website and include it in my newsletter. It has been quite an experience. I am very pleased with how it turned out considering I was quite discouraged in the beginning stages. I just have a little more to do.
Be sure to check out this week’s demo youtube above and Safe Grocery shopping if you haven’t seen it yet. Experts are predicting a second wave of Covid-19.

Well, the summer is shot. I hope an effective vaccine is available soon. I am going to do my research before I get harpooned. Such an awful virus. I have a friend that lost fourteen people to this virus. Fourteen!!! This is not a hoax as I am seeing some people say on social media.
Although more seniors succumb than the young, I have seen reports of children dying of Covid. Hopefully things will get better soon. On an up note I am just about done with my latest floral and will be pleased to add it to my portfolio. It truly is a color feast and I hope everyone enjoys it.
I am also pleased to sell another print of my most popular shore painting, Marsh View at Pawleys Island to a great Virginia patron! As I have said before, I mostly work on paintings of the Blue Ridge and surrounding mountains but the shore is my second favorite place. It is not my most popular painting. A Break in the Clouds is the most popular painting. I may change the heading image here to that painting, at least for a while.

I have finally got to the finesse stage of my latest floral and am so pleased to be done with most of the work. I love what I do but it does require a lot of time and discipline. I am going to work on another Blue Ridge overlook painting that I have a good idea for that resulted from the ones I recently demonstrated on Youtube. I have a lot of photographs from the Parkway to work from but I think I am going to ad lib a lot on this one. I may just base it on some ranges and then go from there.
Anyway, I am so glad we voted yesterday. I am seeing posts of lines that are a quarter of a mile long in Northern Virginia. Wow! We just went in to the registrar’s office and got it done in a few minutes. I think it is great that people are voting early and making sure their vote counts.
Also, very pleased to sell another print of one of my most popular paintings, Canoes at Mountain Lake to a great Texas patron. This is the setting for the hit movie Dirty Dancing and we have vacationed there twice! The natural lake practically emptied but it seems to be filling up again! Hope to go there soon!

I keep plugging along and try to keep from getting this virus. I wish people would forego the beach this summer. A huge spike in covid-19 in Florida says it all. Anyway, I am pleased to be selling prints of popular works! Another print of A Break in the Clouds and Richmond on the James, and Smith Mountain Lake were sold this week.
All three of these paintings have been sold in print form many times. The original paintings, A Break in the Clouds and Richmond on the James have been sold. Always great to get my work out there while I am working away on more. My latest painting is taking a very long time but it is coming along nicely. Hope to finish it soon.
Cheers everyone and, once again, please listen to the doctor below if you haven’t seen this video yet.
