I am at the final stage on my Claytor Lake painting and it is going well. Usually, I am afraid my final changes will hurt what I have but this time I seem to know just what to do to get to that end. That is a nice experience!
I am going to paint more of Claytor Lake which is one of my favorite places in Southwest Virginia. Lots of wonderful memories and I know that positive feeling will be expressed in paint. I can’t explain how that happens, but it does!
I think I am going to have to paint another large one. The small scale is nice sometimes, but when it turns out well I am always sad it is not on a large canvas.
Oh well. Always an adventure! Check out this week’s youtube of another Pittsburgh skyline painting!

I am always so much happier when I am in the middle of a new work! Have to paint! It is a beautiful day here and I hope I can get out and walk. It is always nice to do more than the bank, grocery store or post office trips.
We are all so limited right now so it is great to show my work and talk about it in my Youtubes. It is sort of like teaching at Radford University again. I did a lot of demonstrating in all of my classes and it was a nice experience. I think those demos were helpful. The ones I do on Youtube are not for instruction. I am just painting and talking about the decisions I make.
Still, it does remind me of my teaching experience. Be sure to check out my new one above! It is getting a lot of hits and comments!
Also pleased to sell another print of Sunflower Burst to a great Kansas patron! Check that out below!

So many crazy things happening in our country right now that I am worried about what may happen next. What took place on the capital was horrible and inexcusable. I was horrified and hope there is no more violent protesting. I can’t understand people that think violence is the way to accomplish anything. I am so glad our congress members were not injured.
My father had so much respect for life that I will always remember him getting bugs out of a pool so they wouldn’t drown. I hope in 2021 we will respect each other and work together for a better America.
On a more cheerful note, I am pleased to sell another print of Marsh View at Pawleys Island to a great North Carolina patron! The selection of mat and frame to offset the print is beautiful! Be sure to click on the link to see all the print possibilities!

I have been trying for days to get to a new painting started but I have had a lot of other things to do and my youtube videos always take up a lot of time. It take a while to decide what I will do next and then I have to prep and then make the video.
Lots of work but I have to get back to my main work which I will do soon.
Anyway, I am pleased to sell another print of Sunflower Burst to a great Kansas patron! This vibrant work certainly is popular so be sure to use the link to get a better look and to see all the print possibilities!

Well, today I have something from the Word Man that made me groan. Funny, but so weird that I did groan. I have congestion almost all of the time. I don’t know if it is allergies or some other problem. When this pandemic is over I am going to see a specialist to see if I have a polyp or something. It is always on the right side.
Anyway, I said to Clyde my nose is always running.
Do you go after it?
GROAN and then a laugh. He never quits!

Well, I was going to paint but something came up so here I am hoping for better light tomorrow. I may go in after my computer stuff since it is just the first layer so the lighting is not that important.
I have three new ideas that I am anxious to get started on. These paintings will be rather small but I may consider them as painting sketches for one or more large paintings. I really like to work large but not too large. Not enough room in the studio for huge ones but it would be nice to work on a big one.
Maybe I will paint another fairly large one like Marsh View at Pawleys Island which is the painting at the top and measures 60″ x 41″, but not any time soon.
Anyway, glad to sell a framed print of Morning Stroll at Isle of Palms to a great North Carolina patron! The patron’s frame selection is gorgeous! Click on the link to see all the print options.

I just don’t understand how this happens every year. I think I have plenty of time to mail Christmas cards and packages and then, all of a sudden, Christmas is ten days away. Yikes!
I have had such a busy day that I am just going to leave the same paintings up and add a Life with The Word and Bird Man segment and call it a day.
I didn’t get to paint today but I have had a lot of nice responses to my latest Demo Youtube which is above. Be sure to check it out! I am very pleased with how this one turned out.
Lot of ideas for new oil paintings but not lots of time. Since it looks like we will be snowed in tomorrow I should be able to get one started. I can’t believe how many Downward Facing Dogs we did today in Yoga class. There ought to be a limit in each class. Oh well. I am getting stronger so I will keep at it. Got to keep the old body going.
I hope everyone has a great Holiday season!

I know I have mentioned the cardinal that keeps on clobbering itself on our window right behind the computer. Sometimes I can tune it out but other times it is really hard to take.
We have tried everything to stop it but nothing has worked. It is trying to scare that awful competitor in the window away.
Anyway, Clyde said that bird is like the postman. That’s for sure. No matter what, that bird is pummeling itself.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

Still not back to my oil painting but I am just about finished with the acrylic demo one that I thought was a lost cause. So glad I did not throw it away.
My last oil painting is in that, finished- but -not -quite -what -I wanted, phase. I will get it online soon. There isn’t anything wrong with it. Is is very close to what I want but not exactly. Always the carrot just out of reach. I just need to move on and it will look much better when I am not so caught up in it.
So pleased to sell more wall art prints to patrons in Texas and Virginia! Peaks of Otter in Fall is one of my favorite mountain paintings and Wildflower Magic is a vibrant beauty. The original resides in Richmond, Va. The original Peaks of Otter in Fall oil painting is still available!

Well, when it rains it pours. I wanted to paint today but we have a family emergency so we have to spend the day traveling. While I was fixing lunch, my favorite mug fell of the counter and slammed into my big toe causing a bleeding gash. Nothing happened to the mug!
Last Friday I injured my back so I didn’t film a Demo Youtube. Instead I showed some recent works and got great compliments. Check it out above! I get uptight when I can’t paint so I had better look out in case there is a third downpour.
Well, all of the above was written yesterday. What a day! I did paint today and did my, Dodge Grocery Shoppers thing a while ago. I wore a mask and shield since there are always people in there without masks. It is hard to shop with a shield on since it fogs up. I had to keep sanitizing my hands and using a tissue to wipe it off from the inside.
I wish everyone was more concerned about the rise in coronavirus cases here in Southwest Virginia. There are more hospital cases and deaths. We check the stats every day.
Anyway, take care!

Sometimes a painting really comes together and it doesn’t even have to age! That is what happened this time and I am extremely pleased with my latest Blue Ridge sunset painting. It came together after a number of detours and frustration.
I didn’t quit because it was a good as it was going to get. I quit because it was exactly what I wanted and that is always a red letter day! I am pleased to present it here and I have started on another sunset painting. I am really into those gorgeous evening colors right now.
I may do a still life soon but it is such a lot of work getting the composition and the lighting right. Although painting is a lot of work, it is what I love to do but I am a little lazy about difficult set ups. Oh well. I will get to one soon. Be sure to check out this week’s Demo Youtube above of St. Louis Missouri. Have a great day everybody! I know I am!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
Clyde and I have been a little uptight the last week or so. He has said a few very funny things but I don’t think I should print them. Anyway, we both loved something we saw on Facebook. Someone asked God for a sign if the person was eating too much. The picture of a cloud that looked just like a pig was floating by! Love it!
I would greatly appreciate a Google review if you like my work! Here is the link.
If you like my work but don’t have any more room on your walls be sure to check out my paintings on just about anything on my website or Zazzle! Here is the very popular Richmond on the James on a Christmas ornament!
Well, instead of painting today I filmed another youtube for Monday. This time I gave a tour of my studio. I did that a long time ago when I didn’t have many followers and wasn’t actively interacting on Youtube.
I didn’t look at it as a social media site. I thought I could just put up youtubes and get a lot of attention. Wrong! Now I interact with all those that follow me and I have over 800 followers.
I am going to continue to work at growing my channel since Youtube is so popular. The one I made years ago was meant to be a humorous video about how hard it is to keep a studio clean. I worked hard on it and would like to get more attention for it. I am including it here! Please check it out if you haven’t seen it!
Also be sure to check out my latest video demo of a Los Angeles skyline! This one is getting a lot of attention and don’t forget the Safe Grocery Shopping video if you haven’t seen it.
