Before I decided to help out our church and play the piano when our great organist left I wasn’t a fan of hymns.
I was surprised to find out that there are many that I like very much and every once in a while I find one that is great. Of course, many of them are lyrics set to famous music, including Beethoven’s 9th.
This one is by Gustav Holst,1874-1934, best know for his work The Planets. Always such a nice experience to play music I like at church.
Now to get to painting. I love to play the piano but I live to paint.

Clyde and I like to watch Jeopardy. Some of the information in the questions is very interesting and I like to see the contestants maneuver the money to win. Sometimes a very knowledgeable player will lose due to poor betting on their answers.
Anyway, the other night the answer to a question was rhinoplasty and I got it before the player.
Clyde, always the one to play with words said, “Is that a republican in name only with a nose job?” Of course not but I do love his word play. Just a joke. No offense to republicans.

I am very pleased with my latest abstract painting,or, as I call them, Center of my Mind paintings. I am essentially a representational artist and prefer to work with subject matter from nature but it is always a great experience to create a visual experience without recognizable shapes.
My latest is quite complex and the subtle changes in color worked out very well. I wish I could explain it better but I can’t. All art is an abstraction from nature but that is so hard to explain to people that aren’t involved in the process.

As I have said before, I am not a good sleeper. Never have been. One good thing about not sleeping well is people that don’t sleep well have a lot of dreams that they remember.
I have a friend that sleeps like a rock and she says she does not remember dreams. The nightmares I could do with out but I do have some great dreams about loved ones that have passed on.
Last night I had a dream about my mother. She passed on almost four years ago. We were getting ready to go to a concert. She was a great pianist and took me to wonderful concerts in DC. I did not wake up as tired as I usually do and had a smile on my face.

I hate being painfully shy but I just have to deal with it as best I can. We were invited to a neighborhood party with live music.
Due to Covid and other difficulties we have not met anyone here. I kind of feel like they should come to us not the other way around. I am way too shy to make the first move.
Anyway, Clyde did not feel well enough to go and my son wanted to wait for his girlfriend to call so I went by myself. I am so glad there were two people there that I knew and the host and hostess were such nice people.
Still, my stomach grinded and grinded so I just drank the drink I brought and after I had been there for a reasonable amount of time I left.
My mother was painfully shy and she always said it gets better with age. Not for me. I think it has gotten worse but I keep trying to interact with others.

We have a Faith and Film event every so often at our church and the members like the ones I pick out. I am a movie buff and there are so many films that are uplifting and well made.
One of my all time favorites is Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ball Room Dancing and Charm School that stars John Goodman, Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei ,Mary Steenburgen and Sean Astin.
If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out. Our congregation loved it. It is a great trip down memory lane for people born in the 50’s and 60’s. I love all the arts so a film about the celebration of dance is a wonderful film for me.
The film is about never giving up on your dreams and overcoming grief.

I can’t believe the weird noises my new washer makes. I don’t really know what a wounded buffalo slogging through water sounds like but it is probably like these sounds.
I have never heard a washing machine sound like water is sloshing back and forth. The little song at the end is cute but I wish it were quieter when it is working.
That sloshing water reminds me that I am not going to get a chance to go to the lake today. Too much to do and my arm hurts from a Covid booster.
Oh well. Maybe tomorrow or Sunday.

On Facebook I keep seeing posts about the right way to hang toilet paper on the dispenser. Some of the people that put up these posts are outraged that people would hang it with the paper coming from underneath the roll.
I never have paid any attention to which way I hang it. Doesn’t matter to me. I decided to hang it the so called “right way” and I just don’t see the advantage at all.
Wow. You know I am really desperate for something to say here when I talk about toilet paper.
On well. Onward and upward to all my computer work. Hope everyone has a great dispute free day.

I have two huge garbage bags full of plastic bags. Why do I have two huge garbage bags full of plastic bags? Years ago I was faithfully recycling them at the grocery store then one day a young neighbor told me the manager always told him to take them out back and put them in the dumpster.
Well, that store is no longer around. Yesterday when I said I didn’t want a plastic bag for a couple of items I mentioned the problem with collecting too many. The cashier said she would show me where I can recycle them in the store. I politely asked her is she was sure they would be recycled and told her about my young friend.
She was sure and asked another employee if they were indeed recycled. He said a truck comes and picks them up. Well, I am tired of all these bags so I am going to trust this store to do the right thing.
Those recycle bins will not know what hit them. I guess I better not take them all in at once.
