I don’t have much to say today or the time to say it so I am just going to post those selections and get on with all that I have to do right now. I didn’t get a chance to paint and won’t be able to paint tomorrow either so I will be uptight until Thursday. The painting is coming along but I need to be able to work on it.

I can’t believe I am finally going to the doctor for a check up. It has been well over a year since my last check up and I will be glad to go. I feel fine but I believe in preventive medicine. I especially believe in dental appointments. Neglected teeth are a huge health problem and I do not let that happen. I used to tease my mother about how well she took care of her teeth. The dentist we had when I was young told me her teeth were the cleanest teeth he had ever seen. Well, I doubt mine are as clean as hers but I really do work at it. I hate cleanings.

I am very pleased with a demo oil painting I did for Youtube. Some viewers want an actual painting demonstration but after all these years my methods are unique to me and don’t make any sense so I decided to use the methods I was taught to use ages ago and it turned out very well. I was surprised that I could paint something in the traditional thin to thick style and have something I liked without intense color complexity and a raised impasto surface. Painting is such a mysterious process – at least for me it is.

I am dragging my feet or rather staying away from my palette right now. I need to get serious about my latest figure painting and hope to do that tomorrow.

Well, this post certainly was a senior moment on my part. I already talked about mailing this painting in my last post and forgot to modify the first part for this post. Anyway, without naming names the shipping service that I used to send the above painting must have really slung it around.

I have been shipping my work for decades and I know how to immobilize the work in cardboard and then immobilized in an outer box. It arrived with a the frame broken in two places so I had to refund the patron. Fortunately the painting is fine and the patron said he would take it to a local framer. I have never had a frame damaged before so I am going to consider using wooden crates for medium size paintings as well as large ones. I don’t want this to happen again.

My latest figure painting is coming along and I am considering painting it in the style that the original failed painting was painted in many years ago. I was going to use the complicated system I use now but I am having success with a more traditional approach to handling the paint so I will probably go in that direction. Who knows? I make decisions but the painting always starts talking to me and giving me suggestions.

Anyway, between my new painting, coming up with an idea for my next Youtube, and getting ready to play again at church, I am really stressed for time.

I am thinking of painting some more wildlife and here are some favorite examples but I don’t think I will paint a hippo . LOL!

I love it when someone orders a print that is the same size as the painting. I remember listening to one artist on TV say scale does not matter. I disagree and I paint many of my works to look good in a 40″ x 30″ format. The great MO patron will be seeing Isle of Palms Sunset in the same way I see it and I think that is a good thing!

I also like it when I can figure out the changes in a site. When I post a file of a painting on WordPress a caption comes up with a picture and a guide to change it. I can make the letters bold but I don’t see any where I can change the font size. I don’t see it at the top left, right on in the section above the caption that has options.

One of these days I will get used to the new WordPress. But right now it is still a big ARGHHHH. I can change the font size if I start a new block. Then the options appear to the right. Go figure.

Had a big bump with my latest figure painting but I think I have resolved my beginning issues and can now get seriously to work on it. It is a kind of remake from the past and it will look completely different. I will be incorporating a few things from the original work but not that much.

I am going to incorporate some of the fabrics into the painting but the model will completely change and the setting will have major changes, too. I am excited about getting back to this painting.

Kendall Kessler is Back to Work


So glad my back is completely better. All I did was lean over to get something out of the refrigerator. I know it is just tension that causes one of my muscles to go crazy. I am back to Yoga and that helps a lot. I am about to get started on one of my very old paintings I recently . recovered. I have to think about how I am going to paint it. I know it will require at least one layer but probably a number of layers. So glad to have it back!

My approach to a painting is so different from it was when I painted it. I don’t usually greatly modify old work but this one had so many faults that must be corrected. I have thought about that painting a lot and stared at it for a while and it is not going to bear much resemblance to what it is now.

I am going to incorporate some of the fabrics into the painting but the model will completely change and the setting will have major changes, too. I am excited about getting back to this painting.

Also, I am picking up on a thing or two on the new WordPress format each day. I hate being so computer challenged but I know I have to keep up.
