Blue Ridge Parkway Artist is Learning the new WordPress Format

Not doing very well, but I will figure this out. I want to change the size of the letters. Let’s see if I can do that without pulling my hair out. I did it. Yea! Glad I am starting to figure this out. It certainly is very different from the classic format and I can’t say I like it but maybe I will after a few trys.

I am pleased with my latest painting and am considering a floral next. I think some of my most successful paintings are florals but there is something I am after in them that is just always beyond my reach. As always, there is something to learn and I think I am close. I know I will never get there but that is what keeps me going. Getting closer and closer is great and always yields some fine paintings along the way.

Life of an artist can be crazy but it is the life for me! I am posting twice a week on Youtube and and just a few short of 1k. Such a lot of great comments and I hope people are clicking on links to my work. I have been doing some very unusual paintings there using paper towels and napkins. I think they are great abstracts! On Mondays I am uploading demos and on Thursdays I am uploading one painting and talking about the inspiration for it.Below are the two youtubes and my latest Blue Ridge painting.

I am just about done with my latest Blue Ridge painting and it was a struggle but I am happy with it and it is time to move on. I am so pleased with all the attention I am getting on Youtube so I am going to try to post my latest here but I am still quite confused with the WordPress new format. Since I can click on the youtubes in previous posts, I think I can still do that in the free version. Clyde and I came in on the middle of a very old movie last night. A guy bought his girlfriend two bunches of violets for twenty cents. Clyde said you couldn’t buy one wilted petal for that now! That is for sure. Times certainly have changed!

I have decided after much consideration that I am going to scale back on blogging. I am spending so much time on Social Media that it is hard to have a life and difficult to get to my paintings. I will still blog here but I no longer have the Premium version so I don’t have the same features.

Youtube is where I am gaining a lot of attention so I am going to concentrate on my channel. The channel is easy to remember since I am using my name.

I was putting up twenty minute videos once a week but I am thinking of adding shorter ones, too.

So pleased to sell another print of my husband’s book, Fiddling at Midnights Farmhouse to a great North Carolina patron! I gave up trying to get the painting uploaded. Neither the small or large file would work so I put up another illustration from the book and the link. The one that sold, Willow Eye, is in that collection.

I am having a hard time figuring out the new WordPress so I am not sure what to expect with this blog. I can’t seem to find the page that has the features for a free website so I don’t know if the Youtubes can be played.

I always copy paste the last blog and change the paintings around which I can’t seem to do today in the new version. I will eventually catch on. I don’t have time to look at Youtube tutorials and oftentimes those tutorials tell you to go to a section that doesn’t exist on the site so I have had enough computer aggravation for one day. I can’t believe it! After many phone calls over a long period of time I finally have my covid vaccine appointments! I was called by three volunteers and ended up with an appointment last Friday but no one was there.  

So when my husband got his second one at CVS they gave me a number to get an appointment.  I had to go through a form on my phone that I slightly messed up and it disappeared. 

I couldn’t  believe it. I made another call and was told to press three when I call CVS and I will get a person rather than a robot.  Wrong! Another robot that just confused me.  I went back to my messages on my phone and the form reappeared!  I carefully filled the form out and now I am all set! Yea!!! 

Anyway, I couldn’t paint today but I will tomorrow. I am anxious to get back to my latest Blue Ridge painting. It is really coming along. 

I am so pleased that my shore paintings are also popular! A great Pennsylvania patron bought three framed prints of my paintings of that beautiful resort.  A follower on Linkedin mentioned that the house in Pink on the Beach has burned down. So sad!  I am glad I  preserved it in a large oil painting.

Wow!  My current painting took a nose dive off a cliff.  I really think I was going to just live with a large amount of wasted paint and give up. Such a lot of arm wrestling but then I tried something out of frustration and it started to work.

Sometimes that happens and that  is when I say over and over to myself I will not let a painting drive me crazy.  It can drive an artist crazy but I will never let that happen. I love it too much! 

I was only able to work for a little while today because I had an appointment that for some reason was not right. Hope to get that straightened out today.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

I am still griping away about Yoga.  It does such great things for my body but I watch the clock every time in anticipation of the end. 

I complain to Clyde about it all the time. 

Why do you do it? 

To keep this old body going.

Where is it going?

Argh!  Marry a writer and suffer perpetual word abuse.

LOL!  Love him and will practice Yoga until I can’t.

I am looking outside my window to a beautiful warm day! The first one in a long time so I am determined to walk away from this computer and get outside!  I had a difficult painting session this morning but the painting is coming along.  Lots of arm wrestling right now.  This part and the final part is the hardest but it is always worth it. 

I am very pleased with my latest Youtube painting!  These fast spontaneous expressions keep me on my toes and it is a lot of fun to demonstrate them and talk at the same time on my youtubes. Reminds me of when I taught at Radford University. I always talked all the way through demos.

I am having a weird time with my latest Blue Ridge painting. After several layers I am approaching it the way I used to approach an oil painting in the more tradition manner. I know from experience I can never go back, only forward so I am looking forward to the next session when the brushwork will be complex and the color vibrant and varied throughout the work.  Right now it is like the lights are off as if it were a shadow of things to come. 

This overlook has such a beautiful cloud pattern and makes for a great composition.  I had overlooked this photograph that I took a while back but am now ready to enlarge on it and turn into an expressive painting with way more contrast and color than it has. As I have said many times before, I do not reproduce photographs but I oftentimes base my work on them.  As always I have high hopes for a strong outcome. They are never exactly what I want, but I do get closer and closer! 

Be sure to check out my latest youtube above. I decided to demonstrate an acrylic painting in a similar manner to my oil paintings.  Lots of work off camera but due to the fast drying time I was able to get it done for Monday’s upload.

So pleased to sell another print of Morning Light to a great Minnesota  patron and my most popular shore photograph to a great Illinois patron.  I live to paint but I do have a small collection of popular photographs and Rosy Evening at Isle of Palms is the most popular one.

Having a hard time getting going today but I am looking forward to my next oil painting which will be of a specific site on the Blue Ridge. 

These paintings are my favorites and they are hard. All that atmosphere and dissolution of form in the background is always a challenge but that is what makes it a great pursuit.
