Last night I asked Clyde how his knee is doing. 

Do you still have pain there?

Yes.

Well, now I have a pain.

I am not leaving. 

Not you.  I have a pain in the back of my right ankle.  So, if I were to compare you to a  pain I wouldn’t say you were a pain in the neck.  I guess I would have to say you are a pain in the heel. Or, maybe just a heel.  I think that word is still used to describe a crummy person. 

Married too long to a writer.  You can’t help but pick up on the weird word play.

So pleased that a yoga friend decided to try out Line Dancing today!  I tell people all the time about how great Line Dancing is.  We had a big class today with two new students that did great.  Both of them had Line Danced before so they picked up on the steps and did well.  Both of them will be back! 

Exercise doesn’t have to be a dull experience.  Dancing is a great way to keep fit  Now, if someone would just open another Skating Rink I would be completely happy!  So sorry the terrific one we had closed.  I don’t have time to go to Roanoke so I hung up my skates. 

Oh well, dancing and yoga keep me going!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Clyde and I have been having a hard time with itching.  He thinks it is because of the long winter.  He is using cocoanut butter and I am using some salve that I like.  I don’t like smelling like an Almond Joy bar.  Anyway, I have so much itching on my abdomen that I am wondering if the material used in yoga pants may be the problem. 

I just looked up namaste and there are a lot of different meanings.  I thought it was like saying peace to someone.  Actually most sources say someone is bowing to the spiritual in the person they are saying namaste to. 

Clyde said if that is true then he doesn’t think those pants have namaste threads.  There is nothing peaceful or respectful in pants that make you scratch. 

Maybe I should find some other pants.

Clyde and I are still catching up on Married with Children.  What a great show.  The other night they showed an episode where Al’s life is saved by his lucky shoe horn that he had in his breast pocket. 

Of course, he had to make the crack that he didn’t die so the shoe horn let him down. 

I told Clyde he would never say he wanted to die like Al Bundy.

I keep seeing on TV that we should live in the special moments.  Okay.  Call me Sheldon or Spock but how do we not live in any of our  moments? Do we die during some of them and live during others? Why are some moments more special than others?  I guess what they mean is we should really pay attention to special times. 

I asked Clyde if he lives in the special moments.  He said he consults his pet rock to find out which ones are special.

Again with the pet rock.  I hope we move on to something else soon.

Wow, so many Insurance commercials.  I do think we need health and car and home insurance but I know we can be over insured.  I know I could have bought a number of washing machines for the amount someone asked me to pay annually to insure it a long time ago.  Glad I didn’t take him up on that. 

I think there are Insurance Companies for just about anything these days. 

Clyde said there is probably one to insure your pet rock.

My latest painting is really aggravating.  The second stage was great.  I should have left it there.  I am so glad I preserve the different stages.  A common complaint among artists is that sometimes we go too far and kill a good painting.  Well, I am nothing if not extremely stubborn.  I had two stubborn parents and have three stubborn siblings. 

As my older sister said, “Two big stubborns make four little stubborns.”   No offense to my family.  Let’s just say we are all very determined to accomplish what we set out to accomplish.  Oh yes! That sounds much better.

Anyway, I am going to get in there and try to save it.  Crazy artist to the rescue, I hope. Below is the painting I did right before my current arm wrestler.  This one turned out really well! Ah, the good old days!

It looks like my new figure painting is turning into an arm wrestling match.  Oh well, my recent wildflower painting was a beautiful stroll through paint.  I guess it is time to appreciate the ones that aren’t so difficult by dealing with one that is.  It is coming along but it has taken a few detours that I had not anticipated. 

As I told Clyde right before I mailed a landscape that I really didn’t want to let go of, you probably have no idea what I am talking about.  I tried to explain to him why I thought it was an exceptionally successful work.  He nodded politely while I rambled on.

Art is so much more complicated than the average person understands.  I really think you have to make it to fully understand what a strange process it is.  Time to get off the soap box and get back to work.  I never give up!  I decided to list the second stage here again.  I was happy with that stage.  We’ll see about the third.

Well, our phone is acting up again.  It doesn’t want to work in the morning.  This has happened before and it is irritating. So many things are messing up in our house that should not be messing up.  We may have another problem with our solar system that was recently repaired.  I told Clyde everything in this house has a mind of its own.  His reply.  Except us.  We are both out to lunch.  He may be right.  I think we could both win a Ditsy award if one is ever offered somewhere, somehow , someway.

Very excited about my new figure painting in acrylics!  I am using more layers than I usually use in each stage so I can properly build up the figure’s form.  As I told my students, ad nauseam, anyone can draw a figure.  To get it right is the mark of an artist. 

Most people don’t realize how much time artists spend learning the human form in drawing classes.  It is quite a discipline as we go through mountains of newsprint to get it right.  Since I am using more layers I am learning some things about acrylics I didn’t know before this painting. 

Oils is my main medium and I am usually more spontaneous with acrylics. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out!

The other day someone was talking on TV about how home doesn’t have to be one place. There can be many places that people can call home. 

I brought up the saying I had always heard. 

Home is where you hang your hat. 

Clyde said home is where you can still unlock the door because the lock hasn’t been changed. 

Well,  I don’t think I will change the lock on him. 

At least I don’t think I will. Probably not today.

I am back to the figure which is a particular love for artists.  We don’t draw and paint nudes to be provocative.  We just love the beauty of the human form and all the expressions that different poses give us. 

I am working on an expressive painting of a woman’s back as she is turning slightly to her right.  There will be many layers as I build up the form and add colorful brushwork. 

I was pleased with the first stage so I added it to my portfolio for prints. Here it is!

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

I am still going to Yoga twice a week and I have a short practice at home the days I don’t have Yoga.  Yoga does fantastic things for the body and I still hate it.  I want Clyde to take it when his schedule allows him to so I should keep my mouth shut about how I hate it. 

Anyway, yesterday I told him one of the teacher always suggests some alternative moves to the ones she is demonstrating and she says whatever feels good.

Well, there are stairs over there and the front door at the end of them.  I think it would feel real good to walk down those stairs and go right out that door.  Of course, I keep my mouth shut in class.  I just keep forgetting to keep my mouth shut at home.

Don’t misunderstand.  Yoga is a great way to keep the body going and I will keep at it.  I don’t have to like it.
