Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler
All of my life I thought I was definitely different. High School certainly proved that. I didn’t fit in at all and lived in my own world of art, music, and literature. When I was a kid and definitely different I told people I knew I was crazy. I didn’t think it was because I was an artist. I used to argue with people and students that artists are not crazy.
Van Gogh had a history of mental illness in his family and I think it is very likely he would have had problems regardless of what career he took up. I gave up on that one and just agree with people that think artists are nuts. Now that I am pretty old I have noticed some strange mental lapses.
I told Clyde sometimes I think I am losing my mind and then I say to myself, did I ever have one? Oh well. I may be on the wacky side and getting wackier by the minute but I am a well functioning nut with a lot of paintings to paint.
Why is my number four paint brush on the shelf with the cookies?

Why wouldn’t your #4 paint brush be with the cookies? My jar of paint brushes, box of paints, and watercolor journal are on the kitchen table. Everyone else is nuts not us! I’ve never understood why they don’t see colors as vividly, or compositions the way I do…which is a bit skewed I confess, cause I don’t see compositions straight-away. I need to walk around and ingest a place for a bit before I begin to see some compositions that are photograph or paint worthy.
Keep your paint brushes where ever you can find em I say! Van Gogh…and so many other artist in all types of genre were very misunderstood, and bullied for being different. Even here in the good ole USA people are ridiculed and bullied for being, or thinking different from the most vocal, whiners of the time. It’s wrong and not what this country is supposed to be about.
FIGHT BACK! If you put your paint brush with the cookies at the end of a painting session then damn it that’s where it goes!
Do we care if your brush your teeth with your left hand? NO! So, back off is what I say.
The artists didn’t speak when they came for….insert whoever is today’s target, so I didn’t speak out…this shouldn’t be you or me…cause they’ll come for us next. Just sayin!
