I hate to be gloomy but I am wondering what is happening to our freedom in the USA. I don’t think the terrorists have to work so hard to frighten us anymore. Our own people have taken care of that. We shouldn’t have to be afraid of a movie theater or a store or a political rally or a race or anywhere else but the thought of being in the wrong place at the wrong time is now a part of my thoughts.
We have always had mentally ill people but we have not always had all these shootings of people going about their daily lives. I don’t want to get into a gun control debate but I wish these horrible events would quit happening so frequently. We can’t stop living to keep from dying but we also shouldn’t have to consider the possibility of being killed for no reason.
Okay, enough gloom and doom! Time to paint!

I’m not anti-gun. We can defend ourselves in this house. But there are way too many easy to buy guns on the street. I live in New Orleans. During July we were averaging a murder a day. We are on track to have more gun deaths in a year than any time since Hurricane Katrina. Because, I work on the street a lot I know where to go if I want to buy a gun on the street. It’s too easy. It’s going to take a long time to stop mass murders and street killings.

Wow! Sounds like you have a quite a violence problem where you live! I’m not anti-gun either but I am anti-gun-in-the-hands-of-the-mentally ill. I am hoping we will do more to keep guns away from them. I also think it should not be so easy for people to get guns. Yes, the criminals will always get them, but regulations on sales would be some sort of decrease in fatalities. Maybe not, but I would like to think so.

New Orleans has always been a rough place. It may not be as bad as Detroit or some other rust belt cities, but we have a unique combination of multi-generational street criminals and not enough cops. We are about 500 down…

I like to visit big cities but small town rural life is best for me. Radford is listed as a city but it is so small it seems more like a town. 500 down. Yikes!

I’ve lived in a lot of places… I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. 🙂 I have another friend who lives in Radford. Works as a graphics person VT and is a very good musician. David Simpkins. Do you know him or of him? Thanks for the kind words.
