My husband and I are baffled about all the equipment we need to watch a few channels on TV.  We were perfectly happy without cable but with the digital switch we lost Public television so we had to install cable which meant a new box on the floor and wires all over the place.

 

Now we have to add some adapters or we will lost channels.  Since there are so many things attached to the TVs we will have to buy another big electrical outlet to hook these up.

 

Yuck!  I hardly ever watch TV.  I just watch DVDs.  I wish we could just turn the TV on without all this extra stuff.

I am anxious to get to work on my latest Blue Ridge Parkway painting.  I had to order paint recently and for some reason I am having a hard time getting a good cerulean blue.  That color was fantastic when I was young but for some reason it seems to have become chalky. 

I ordered some very expensive small tubes and was amazed that the color wasn’t as good as the less expensive large tubes.  Go figure!   I think I have enough for today and I have another order in.

 

Meanwhile, here is my latest Suggestion painting!  Real proud of this one!

Fantasy Universe is another sensuous, colorful painting from my series,
Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time nebulous spheres showed up so I decided to turn the scene into a fantasy universe. Outer space gone amok! I am especially pleased with the energy in this one.

My husband’s sense of humor is different to say the least.  Most of it is based on word play which makes sense since he is a poet.  He cracks me up all the time but sometimes the humor is not so funny as it is clever.

 

The other day he decided to walk to a small store that has a small grill when we were socked in with the snow.  It is only a five minute walk and he walks as much as possible.   He wanted to know if I wanted a Mountain Dew which I love but only drink once a week since it has so much caffeine and I am not a good sleeper.

 

Before he asked I was just about to ask him to get me one.  I told him he read my mind.  He replied that he was psycho.  I said I think the work you are looking for is psychic.  He said he knew but psycho is more fun to say.

Okay.  Not worried.  I know he is a great guy!

Blue Ridge Parkway Artist, New Floral Still Life, and Who are you Talking to?

Lots of New WordPress friends!  If you haven’t seen my first Youtube about my best selling print on The Mindy Project, please check it out!  There were a lot of shots of it on the show last night.  It is across from Mindy’s desk and when she sat in the chair by the window it was visible.  The show is in it’s third season and is very funny!

 

Here is my latest still life.  I don’t have a title for it and it isn’t anywhere else on the internet.  It will be on Etsy tonight and hopefully prints will be available tomorrow on my website!  I am very pleased with the brushwork and color in this one!

 

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

 

I like to argue with inanimate objects.  I yell at my computer mouse all the time.  It is battery operated and likes to lose contact with the computer frequently.  I wish I had a cat to feed it to sometimes.

Anyway, last night I was working with my weight to help strengthen my pathetic arms.  I have always had weak arms and had a frozen shoulder a number of years ago so I try to swim once a week and use a weight at night.

Clyde put on the clean sheets and they were sagging at the end of the bed.  I keep my weight under the bed.  After I did the lifts I was trying to put the weight back but it kept getting caught on the bed spread so I yelled at it to get in there.

Clyde asked who I was talking to under the bed.  Yeah, I guess that does sound bad but it was just my weight, dear!  No guys under the bed.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Scammers, scammers, and more scammers!  Yikes!  I am getting one or two every day or so.  They all want so badly to get to know me.  I talk to Clyde about them all the time.  He says they may all be the same person posing as different guys.

Anyway the latest one wanted to know if I am having a good day, did I have a good night, and have I had my morning coffee yet.   Of course, I can’t be absolutely sure this guy is a scammer but I am 99.9% sure.  If I am wrong and he comes across this blog, then sorry.  I sincerely doubt that is the case.  I communicate a little with them in case they aren’t scammers and then I stop.

I have had a lot of clever lines from these people over the years and I fully expect to one day get a message that God told them to contact me and give them my bank account information.  I’ll bet that is next!

Right now it is 27 degrees!  Yesterday it was 1 degree in the morning so this is a heat wave.  The snow has covered up what the plow did a few hours ago and it is still falling.   The next time I can get out I am definitely buying some boots!

Mary Beth’s Gift is one of my favorite still lifes. I am especially pleased with the use of line and intense color contrast in this work. I have always believed that it is not what you do in art but how you do it. This plant was given to me by an office mate and I liked it so much that I decided to make it into a work of art. I found the perfect doily that adds to the strong linear accents and contrasts nicely with the complementary colors.

This pastel painting won second place in the Pastel Division at an International Juried Competition in Nogales, Arizona.

Old Plant is a vibrant painting of one of our planters by an open window. I am especially pleased with the strong patterns and value contrast in this work. I haven’t met the medium I don’t like and oil pastels are high on the list of favorites. My main medium is oil paint but I am also love pastels and have won awards in both from prominent artists.

BioSurvey: Matthews State Forest

In support of and compliance with the Virginia State Forest’s objective to demonstrate and educate, Blue Ridge Discovery Center is proposing a multi-year biological survey of Matthews State Forest. Through this project, BRDC will also bring attention to wildlife habitat and water quality while providing relevant data for future land use planning.

To reinforce the educational component, BRDC will enlist science and art teachers based in the Galax, Grayson and Carroll counties region. Through these teachers, we will create groups of students to conduct the field studies under the direction of BRDC staff and volunteers from local universities and colleges.

The sun is shining but it is only 5 degrees

Wow!  What a cold snap.  It looks so nice outside with the pretty snow and sunshine but if I open the door I change my mind right away!  Don’t want to go out there.  Nice and warm in here! 

The heat is still working and the pipes are fine.  We are having to drip water during the day time now to prevent them from freezing.  Looking forward to the week end when the temperature will be higher that the fingers on one hand.  Cheers!
